Last Version of Sonnar that runs under Windows 98SE?
Does anyone know the last version of Sonar that will run under Windows 98SE? I think it was Sonar 2 but I'm not sure. I'm doing a project using some old 'vintage' MIDI hardware that will not work with WinXP or newer. Thanks!

SONAR 2 is the last version which lists Win98 in system requirements.

MIDI via MIDI cable doesn't need device drivers therefore should not be OS specific. Needs to go through a MIDI interface, possibly a USB to MIDI cable may work as well..

What are you using now? If you can save the MIDI file and bring that into your XP's Sonar you can use updated sounds.
The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better. For a second I thought someone was still wanting to work on Windows 98. Phew.

Well I refuse to work on anything above 95 and ME because the NSA hold an encryption key for NTFS ;)

The issue is not MIDI data per se, it's the control/configuration utilities for the hardware that are Win95/Win98 based. Examples are MOTU Midi Express PC Notebook, Alesis Soundbridge for QSR, Rocktron Chameleon Editor, and a couple of Akai SCSI utilities are buggy under WinXP.

Just a guess, but have you tried running the utility programs in compatibility mode?

Compatibility mode only does XP and above. You could try virtual machines (you are probably already trying it).

Thanks! I have a computer that is running Win98SE (it dual boots IBM DOS 7.0 :) ) with no issues that I just put on a KVM switch so no real need to mod my main DAW to run virtual machines - I did consider it.
