Don't, under any circumstances, mention my name..

Good point, but if you show up with a large, wiggling duffle bag and tell them you've got Bapu in it, they might let you in.

Wow- Thanks for the suggestions...some of those places looked kinda creepy. I pictured more of an office environment in the front with a bunch of software baking units in the back further with tasters here and there. Probably some guys there with dna similar to Bill gates. The older workers have long since been retired due to retina failure and the insanity that can happen when you live with computers most of your adult life.....but I could be totally wrong and these guys like to go kayaking and mountain climbing on the side. Whatever the case, it takes a special breed to write code day in and day out, listen to complaints and fix minor nits.

I think it would be cool to visit and meet a few of the wizards. I wouldn't ask any really private questions want to  competitivness being what it is in the DAW market.

I probably need to go through the proper channels here. I just wondered if any of you have made the visit?

... it takes a special breed to write code day in and day out, listen to complaints and fix minor nits. ... I think it would be cool to visit and meet a few of the wizards. ...

Having lived, for a long time, with a very good code artist, and one of the best, in many ways, this is an issue ... they don't all write code day and night, but those that do, also have to get up day and night to fix details in the code they over see and work with. The problem, usually is, of course, one person in the middle of the thousand, and when you fix this little detail, you hack up 10 others accidentally ... now things get tough!

Code, is, in some ways, a thankless job!

But it, also, is, something that needs a lot more input from the outside folks, as a lot of code folks tend to be a bit over protected and hidden, and they do make mistakes, which is not a problem, but I have also seen malicious "revenge" (no other word for it!) take place, because of people that did not have any kind of aesthetic or artistic appreciation for the work they did or helped with.

The other issue is that many of these programs are not helping people "get into music", and do not support beginners well enough ... it is automatically assumed that these programs are for some type of professional music hackers whose talents could be considered dubious, but there are just as many folks whose talents are above and beyond the measuring lines. Not to mention how many of these programs are killing the actual learning of how to play music ... which no one is addressing, and will eventually do away with instruments altogether!

While I am not a computer dummy, I have had a horrible time with DAW's ... but I can do Windows support all night long, and used to help folks with a lot of issues over the phone. I'm not new to "software", but being able to get personal assistance, when one on one, is difficult, logistically for everyone, and I only did 2 house calls, and they were not ... favorable ... in every sense of the word!

But in general, if you get them all a pizza and Dr. Pepper and a kick in the butt, you probably can sit with them and BS about the latest game they play with! (Remember they are code artists, and some times they can see where the cheating is, and how the video card responds, which might give them an extra edge that you do not know about!).

Good luck!

Now I have this song stuck in my head...

Someone's Knockin' At The Door.
Somebody's Ringin' The Bell.
Someone's Knockin' At The Door.
Somebody's Ringin' The Bell.
Do Me A Favor,
Open The Door And Let 'Em In.

Funny ... I heard this:
Please come to Boston in the springtime
I'm stayin' here with some friends and they've got lotsa room
You can sell your paintings on the sidewalk
By a café where I hope to be workin' soon
Please come to Boston

About a month ago I posted a google earth pic of where I thought Cakewlak were. Turns out my address for them was out of date and so they posted an up to date pic with the proper address and said I should pop in any time I'm in town. So call the office or spam Andrew or someone and organise it.

When I was a kid, we didn't admit openly that we could hear the Internet. Why, if you walked around yelling, "LOL!", searching for funny cat videos, and trying to friend everyone on the planet, everybody would treat you like you were insane. I learned not to talk about it too often. Oh, I heard it alright, but talking about it was not allowed.

"That boy just ain't right, bless his heart." I got that all the time. I still do. LOL.

Hi,

Gotta hand it to Boston, that just told the Olympic committee to take a hike ... the committee is looking for another city to RAPE and PLUNDER financially, and the city gets the pennies and the nickels left over ... not a whole lot of them, but what the heck!

To me that is a great city, finally realizing what a scam is.

Boston is already in deep from that big underground tunnel they went millions over budget on.

My time window was short there and apparently all of the bakers are too busy to look at PM's ..or didn't want me coming there...in either case I had to leave Boston and it didn't pan out. The place they market from has no outward signage so you would be hard pressed to find it unless you really look. They are located in Bostons China town..I suspect some of the work isn't even done there. In any case I think things always pan put the way they do for good reason. I spent three days in Boston after a cruise from Quebec to Boston with numerous stops along the way. One of those days was a trip to Martha's Vineyard ( an island off the coast of Maine)...where Obama will be next month for vacation.

I did get to eat in the original Cheers bar and I met Kack, Lack,Mack and Knack....I rode the swan boat because my wife asked...I went inside out in Boston. It was scary...I was actually starting to acclimate to the place. Just some useless trivia- Samuel Adams is buried there and of course they named a beer after him, but it isn't his face on the label..since he was an ugly guy they decided to put Paul revere's face on the bottle. Boston is home of the American revolution and now when you go there you can't be sure the people you're looking at aren't British, french, or folks from anywhere in the world...since it is very much a tourist place. There were brits staying in my motel...yeah I know...scary :)........Benjamin Franklin was from Boston but had a disagreement with his father and brother so he ran away to Philadelphia to later become one of it's founders. If you go to Phila. most of the tours all include Benjamin Franklin....he really got around.

...

At least it is not like Brazil, where they intentionally miss the deadlines, so they can triple the costs on purpose.

Re: I'm going to be in Boston. Can I visit Cakewalk? 2015/07/30 09:38:08 (permalink)
Karyn lol!

The idea was to eliminate a huge eyesore in the city since the old road system was up on rusty steel beams. It was aging and instead of replacing it they decided to remove it and put it underground. The traffic made a lot of noise, so they also thought that it would make things quieter. The area looks nice now ( where the road once was). The whole thing was a huge cost and time over run though....then there is the Prudential building with hundreds of glass panes that were just a bit too small and would occasionally pop out onto the street below from way up high. No one died though..and they were able to correct the problem eventually after many of those panes popped out...

They have a nice "harba" and the "chowda" is nice too. The Red Sox...meh.... the place is expensive compared  to other cities. To give you some idea...we rented a motel room in the Sonesta in Philadelphia not long ago for 250.00 a night. The Sonesta in Boston is  almost 600.00 a night we lucked out and found a mom and pop city motel that was still nice for 289.00 which is considered a bargain there...three nights still set me back almost a grand.

I don't get what's wrong with putting roads ON the ground, it's not like you're running out of space over there....

A grand for 3 nights,  you could have a week over here for that, including the flights...

Boston is in Taxachusetts.  Probably 65% or more of that total went to taxes.

Ive been to mass a few times; and the really cool thing was you go 60 miles/100 kms in any direction and speak with a local resident you'll distinctly hear a different accent.
