Anyone running Windows 10 and have a working audio interface?

m-audio quit supporting the Profire 610 so I know there will be no drivers for it
Focusrite told me they would have drivers ready for Windows 10
Roland US said they had requested Windows 10 drivers but had not heard back on availability
MOTU said they would wait to see if there is a problem on Windows 10 before doing anything

Is anyway running an Ultralite AVB on Windows 10?

Thanks

Hi Max-

Sorry, I can't help with any of the interfaces you mentioned, but I'm sort of in the same boat with my Komplete Audio 6. The NI web site suggests holding off on Windows 10 until they've completed compatibility tests with the release version. Apparently they've been testing with pre-releases. I'm encouraged that they at least have come out with a statement, since when I checked last they hadn't mentioned Win 10 at all.

I wonder if it would make sense to have a sticky with good/bad results with specific interfaces and Windows 10 once the results start coming in. Maybe not totally necessary, but I'm sure lots of folks will be checking in to see how others are faring once the dust starts to settle. Couldn't hurt, I suppose, except I know some folks think you can never have too few stickies!

Thanks-

The Windows 10 "Release Version" (10240) was finalized and released on July 10 to the "Insiders" (Beta testers) and Vendors.  That's plenty of time for most vendors, but some are dragging their feet.  Roland, on their web site, has a list of hardware that they are testing Win 10 drivers.

I got the release version 10240 on July 10th (I'm in the Insider program) but sadly didn't test my Roland gear and assumed it was working since it worked early in the Beta versions.  Sonar has never had a problem and even my old Frontier Tranzport works in Win 10, although I had to install it in a Vista Compatibility mode (had to do that on Win 8.1 too).

For Roland, it looks like the drivers were coded for specific Windows versions and if that version is not detected it won't install.  It seems like a fairly simple task to update the drivers to include Windows 10.   The Windows 8/8.1 drivers will not even install if run in Windows 8 Compatibility mode.

I emailed Focusrite and they said they would have drivers ready. They were the most responsive of the companies I contacted.

I upgraded from Win 8.1 Pro x64 to Win 10 Pro x64 and my silverface Apollo Quad using Thunderbolt (FW800 audio drivers/PCIe DSP drivers) made the transition without issue. Win 10 even has the Apollo Twin listed as an MS approved and certified TB device, even though UA has not yet released Windows support for it yet. It does not take a rocket scientist to conclude that UA is about to release an Apollo Twin Win update once MS finalizes it's official TB support as a Win 10 update (which should be soon).

Cheers,

I got lucky. I just took the plunge and upgraded to Windows 10 and the Profire 610 came up and worked. I wasn't expecting it too since m-audio dropped support and people were having trouble with it on Windows 8.1. I was all set to get an Ultralite AVB but wanted to know that it was going to support Windows 10. I assume it does or soon will so I went ahead with my upgrade. Surprisingly, to me, the Profire 610 came up and worked!

Same here, except it was an Echo Layla 3G (64-bit). It just worked, post-upgrade from Win7.

I've upgraded my DAW Desktop, laptop, and living room computers to Windows 10 Pro.

I had no serious issues doing the upgrade except for some mis-adventures in converting to a Microsoft Account from a Local Account. That conversion resulted in some permissions problems for User locations that were moved with the 'Locate' setting to other drives. For simplicity, I would not alter the accounts, but rather create a new account using the MS Account (for Cortona, OneDrive, etc.).

On my DAW I'm using the beta Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 Mixcontrol 3.61b1.

On my laptop, a motherboard Realtek interface and the Focusrite Scarlett SOLO USB version 3.1.10.221.

On my living room computer I stream audio through HDMI to my TV.

I Run Sonar Platinum on my DAW and Laptop. On the Living room I have Sonar X3 installed.

I've been at this round-the-clock for the last few days and I'm happy with my settings and results.

I'm doing backups as I write this and settling down for some computer rest and rehab.

EDIT:
Some advice on upgrading.
I would not upgrade using the 'Express' settings - that changes a lot of default applications (Bing, Edge, Cortana, etc.).
Use the Custom settings and look at each one carefully. I want to keep my Chrome browser.

After the upgrade, look at the settings for Windows Update and choose: Notify to schedule restarts.

Also decline to use the peer-to-peer update delivery.

I tried to set up a Homegroup among these three computers, but that did not work out very well - I just use Folder Sharing for a few public locations. It's probably because I have used 'Locate' to move my User folders to various drives. It tends to give 'HomeUser' access rights instead of my account access rights, so I have to save as administrator onto my documents folder.

I ended up disabling all the Homegroup nonsense and modifying Security settings on my User folders. Lots of fun time wasted on that.

Most users that have a single drive and just a Microsoft account will probably do fine, just be careful when things get complicated.

I have decided to restore my laptop to the original Windows 10 image.

I had converted the laptop to use a Microsoft account (it had a local account). I will keep the local account after the restore.

That change followed by the Homegroup change left the laptop in a bad state - the Action Center, Cortana, and Start Menu became corrupted and would not run, hundreds of Event Viewer errors, etc.

I had disabled the restore points because I use an image software, but I think I will enable restore points for a while.

This laptop has a 1TB SSD, do the image restore takes over an hour.

I think I will keep it using a local account - I don't need Cortana, OneDrive Sync takes forever, etc...

I'll repost any issues I find.

EDIT:

Restored my laptop image fine (Acronis 2015 v 6613). Did not use the MS Account or Homegroups, just regular local account and normal Folder shares.
I have kept the restore points on, at least for a while as that is quicker than restoring images.
But once things seem pretty stable I will remove the system protection because they take up a lot of space and I do frequent image backups.

Hi,

upgraded to Win 10 few days ago. No problem at all. I still use an old Echo Mia PCI interface (Not MiaMIDI) with an old driver that is 4-5 years old. The same driver I used since Win 7. ASIO buffer set at 128 or 256 when tracking with soft synths or 1024 when mixing. I render everything to audio when mixing (or freeze tracks). Works perfectly. So maybe a question of hit or miss depending on the interface ...

I installed Windows 10 and all my programs are running except I had to use a 3rd party video player since W10 does not play back MP4!
My Steinberg UR44 has some glitches and its drivers need updating for W10.  Steinberg recommends holding off on upgrading until they address it. I jumped anyway.

What UR44 issues do you have Rimshot? I have the same interface and found that reinstalling the drivers fixed the glitches. I run in ASIO mode and the issues with the UR44 timing seem to be related to those using WDM drivers.

Hey Susan - I've got a KA6 and recently (this week) upgraded to Win10. I haven't done any extensive testing, but haven't encountered any issues yet. I'll try to load up a few heavier old projects and see if they still perform as before.

I'm running Win10 and a Focusrite 18i20. Installed the new beta mixcontrol software and beta driver but the audio is poor quality and full of clicks. No amount of tweaking works. I've had to uninstall them and put the old software and driver back, which is working fine with win10. I have tried 3 times to get it to work, always the same result. According to Focusrite

We have become aware of a connectivity issue running Saffire units on Windows 10 connected to firewire cards with a VIA chipset. We are currently investigating this issue as a top priority. In the meantime, if you are using a VIA chipset, we recommend you do not update to Windows 10.

This directly effects me, and I've confirmed it, so no go for me.

I will say the slowness of pro audio companies in this regard has always been an annoyance of mine. New OS comes out and they hem and haw and drag their feet on getting support for it. It again makes me think about RME for an interface since they were quick to declare support for their drivers on Windows 10.

I have a Focusrite card and the "Oh just use the beta drivers" rather annoys me. Guys, there has been a lot of time to test this. It isn't like MS sneaks their OS updates out, they have lots and lots of beta time to develop their stuff. Get on the stick :P.

At this point it is what I'm waiting on to upgrade my desktop. The rest of my hardware has Windows 10 certified drivers (often the same as the 8.1 drivers, but they've tested and certified them) Cakewalk and NI say their stuff is good to go with Windows 10. However Focusrite says you need to use their beta driver and I'm not really interested in that, so I wait for now.

That's because Focusrite is probably spending more time than most companies testing their gear. I've used their betas in the past and they've always been better. Focusrite beta software is probably the only beta software I would willingly put on my environment.

Personally I'll wait, particularly since there's no need to upgrade at this point. I just always get a little annoyed with pro audio companies and the amount of time it takes them on drivers. nVidia had drivers out day 1 which were WHQL certified and supported DirectX 12. That is a massive amount of work (graphics drivers these days are exceedingly complex) yet they were able to do it and indeed had drivers during the beta.

However pro audio companies always drag on this stuff. Except for RME. That, combined with the fact that they still support their old stuff and their nice mixer makes me really, really look hard at their interfaces.

And look what happened:

... think they were in too much of a rush  They clearly didn't test it very well ...
And don't forget nvidia is a gazillion dollar company with shed loads of resources...
Also noticing the nvidia drivers supplied with Win 10 are seriously crappy (most makes/models), it's always best to download latest from their site afterwards.

I'm using Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 interface and it works just fine. I've had no issues with Windows 10.
Splat seems to move through the OS seamlessly.
But with that said, I'm waiting to upgrade my 1tb HD Acer Laptop to Windows 10 and that will be my final call and verdict for Windows...

Hi Max-

...I'm sort of in the same boat with my Komplete Audio 6. The NI web site suggests holding off on Windows 10 until they've completed compatibility tests with the release version.

Bummer. I have the same interface.

NI has a new driver for KA6, v4.2.0. Have you had a chance to try it out to see if it works?

Though I doubt it officially supports W10, I'll try it later on my W10 laptop.
