Nighttrax
Ok, I'm not the smartest guy on the face of this beautiful earth and I know it.  So I have a question and it's mostly for Crg who has his VS-700r connected to a MOTU 2408.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I'd like to know if there is a way to get in touch so I could hopefully work out my issue.  I have the 700r's Word out to the Motu Word in, then I also have a fiber optic Toslink from the motu to the VS700.  My problem is I can't get the motu to "sync" or even see the VS-700 word clock so it just sits there and blinks at me.  I'd appreciate any help as I know from Crg's post he's achieved this miracle.

Thanks,
Night

Do you have BNC cable hooked up? That's your word out - in link? V700R out to Motu in on the BNC. I hope you have the manual for the Motu. You have to button program the Motu on the front panel select and set buttons, to point the wordclock to the ADAT in out you are plugged into. A, B, or C. The setup on the Motu can be a ****. You have enable the analog ins if your using them on the Motu. The V700R reverts to being the Master Clock upon startup. So the Motu BNC in will be slaved to the V700R, which is what you want. Make sure you have the Digital 2 inputs enabled on the V700R

Hate to interrupt, but I just found this post as active... And, since I only come around here occasionally (more often recently) might as well confess the honor of being the last poster on the planet to admit to owning both VS100 and 700 systems :) I have actually had them since around mid 2010 and still love them both.

I agree, the VS-700 system is still the greatest hardware/software combo on the planet. With Sonar X3 there are no hardware consoles comparable under $20,000 dollars.

Late to this but count me in. Recently got the full system with X3 on a really good deal in the UK. Had some small issues running with a four year laptop but now with a new purpose built 16GB RAM tower it's working really well.

Not late to the party - I have had mine for some time - as of late I have been looking at other controllers - but when it is all said and done - my VS 700 C & R has done the job.   I think I just have the want to get something new; yet, I can't justify it....  Trying to say I don't want to keep it until it has no value - but the value is in what it does and how it works with Sonar.  Guess I'll keep on letting it do what it do...

I'll probably never let my VS-700 system go, until it breaks and can't be repaired. This controller just looks way too good. And it does what other controllers can't do if you're using Sonar. I think this system remains the greatest system ever created for less then $50,000.

Unless Tascam comes out with a competitive system that makes me want to sell the VS-700, the only thing I might consider upgrading is the audio interface to something better, that's about it.

Hi, you can count me in as a latecomer, sorry. I bought my V-Studio 700 SET in 2013, recently upgraded the whole system to Windows 8.1 (with the corresponding drivers) and to Sonar X3 (adding some extensions in addictive drums). As a result, I am very happy and satisfied about the system whose features I am still discovering. The only thing I would like to change is my computer screen (from 24' to 80' ).
Some of the entries in this forum were very helpful and I am very thankful to the experienced people who share their  know-how in a constructive manner, whereas some discussions seemed unnecessary and rather time-consuming to me.

VS700-R is great and transparent, the only thing I consider is that other mic pres have a natural wider stereo field and a headphone output in which the 700r doesn't.

Hi, I have a VS700 studio with 2 700R's. Using Sonar X3e and I am actually unhappy with the control of surroundchannels with it. (See my other post).

Wow, I'm really late!  But I've been a very happy V-Studio 700 user for a couple years or so.  I'm still using X2, as an upgrade hasn't been in the budget this year.  I simply adore the whole system.  I haven't heard much about X3, but it sounds like the VS700 crowd is fairly happy with it?  The 700R is a very fine audio interface, and I love the built-in Fantom.  The 700C surface is beautiful and works great, even considering the few shortcomings under X2.

I've certainly had my share of troubles, mostly during the crazy initial setup phase.  Yikes.  And there are a few niggles that sometimes annoy me and make me wonder, "What were they thinking?"  But ever since the firmware updates, drivers and quirks were all well and fully ironed out...it's really been a joy to use.  I still get excited every time I yank off the dust cover (courtesy of LeCover.com...highly recommended).

Hi guys,
I bought a used refurbished VS-700 Set one week ago (without any cables, drivers or software). Therefore I ordered a cable (at Roland) to connect the console with the rack. I run the VS-700 with Cubase 7 software and it works great. Because of the missing cable I can´t use the rack and the audio interface at the moment. I hope it will also work without any problems. Think there aren´t many VS-700 users here in good old Germany.

Another user here of just the V-Studio 700c, haven't got the 700R. I currently use it with X3e, but having problems with master fader not lining up and responding properly. Hoping someone can fix it finally. Wouldn't use any other Control Surface, am considering going back to 8.5 if no one can fix the problem. Thanks guys

Never posted here before but I think now is a good time as I do hope Cakewalk will continue to support the VS 700.

I own the full set and make a living with it as my primary work space! Love it, using with SONAR X3 Producer on Windows 8 and have had zero problems. Here's to many more years to come with the VS 700 please Cakewalk :) I haven't upgraded to Platinum yet because I'm not sure there are many new features I would use and I haven't heard much on how well the VS 700 works with it.

VS-700 works with Platinum just like it did with X3e - absolutely no difference in functionality
just be careful - the vs-700 installer does no longer come with the Platinum installer, which is no issue at all if you just upgrade from X3, but requires manual download & installation on a clean rebuild DAW

That makes me sad. I was hoping they would at least keep the install software built in to Sonar regardless of not actually supporting it anymore. Have a link to the existing software by chance?

I also own the VS-700 set.  I am very happy with the quality and functionality of both units and have been using them since Sonar 8.  Currently running with Sonar Platinum on Windows 8.1 and plan to upgrade to Windows 10 shortly.  The only problem I've had since Sonar X1 has been the inconsistency in functionality of the Fantom VS.

works fine here with X3 and Platinum on win7
just make sure you have the latest firmware and latest drivers for both units
check that each interface is properly installed and working fine by itself
then follow the setup instructions from the manuals - most important will be to switch OC to VS EXPAND mode and setup master/slave sync properly with COAX cable plugged into proper ports (an easy one to get wrong)
VS 700 needs to be set to sync to "Digital 1" before use (you can do this via desktop shortcut loading your default file into the vS-700 IO editor)
first test at larger ASIO buffers to ensure you don't get any dropouts (if so check setup tips above)
then hike down ASIO buffers (mine run really low - setting 3 @ 96 kHz)

hope that helps :-)
