MC 5 starts slower on I7 and SSD.

Hello to all,

Due to familie and health problems I've been away for almost one year so hello to everyone.

Now for my problem:
For allmost 5 years I have a entry level (say cheap) Asus laptop K52 with 4 GB RAM,
320 GB HD, WINDOWS 7 / 64 bit and a P6100 Intel Pentium processor and onboard
INTEL graphics media accelerator HD.

I start the laptop and wait untill I see all icons on my screen.
Then I doubble click on the start icon from MC 5.
Now it takes 4 to 5 seconds to launch MC 5 and I can start working or load a file.

A few weeks ago I bought a new Acer laptop with 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD,
WINDOWS 8.1 / 64 bit and a I 7 4720 HQ processor. and NVIDIA GPU
with 2 GB video memory, allso a very fast one.
On the new laptop I installed MC 5 and all works well.

From the moment that the new laptop has started, (in about 5 seconds
I see the startscreen of W 8.1,) I click on the MC 5 launch icon and it
takes 10 to 12 seconds tot start MC 5.

My question is: how is it possible that a old cheap laptop with much less specs
starts MC 5 in 4-5 seconds and a new, state of the art laptop  with much more speed,
and a fast SSD, and more power takes 10-12 seconds to launch MC 5?

Can someone please tell me what it's wrong here or is there something I should do?

I allso bought Sonar and MC 6, because I tought MC 5 is a old programm but the result
is the same.

On the old, cheap laptop Sonar and MC 6 starts faster then on the new powerfull laptop.

I have SONY Movie Studio, Photoshop Elements 13 and some other programms and
they all start normaly, only MC 5 gives me problems.

Thank you in advance,

Salleke.

Turn off the virus scanner for your DAW, projects and audio files.

Wow. If you call 12 seconds loading time a problem, you might say life is smiling :o) I've never experienced anything remotely that fast.
As Scook wrote, virus scanning can be one cause. Also, if you have now enabled VST scanning on startup, and previously did not, that might be the cause as well.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

With SSDs you usually do actually expect a little faster. On my system it takes about 3 seconds from the time I click Sonar Platinum until it is up and ready for me to load a project. They really speed loading up a ton.

    Hello Scook,

I have done what you suggested. but it did not change anything.
I use Windows defender on each laptop.

But thank you for the replay.

    Hello Kalle Rantaaho,

I have disabled VST scanning on startup and I must say that it has
speed up things by a few seconds.

Now the old laptop starts faster (under 3 seconds) but the new I7 with
    SSD still needs 10 seconds.

And you are right, 10 seconds is not the end of the world.
But why does we buy faster and more powerfull computers
    if we get worse results?

If it was a few seconds then OK, but that big difference to me is not normal.
Maybe there are other underlaying problems that can be solved to.

But the most important reason that I posted this here is that I am curious.
I would like to understand how this can be.

It's this curiousity that drives mankind to Mars and Pluto ... -:)))

Thank you for the much appriciated help.

    Hello Sycraft,

I would be the happiest man on the world if my new laptop
would start Sonar and MC 5 in 3 - 5 seconds.

And like Kalle says, it's not the end of the world but I am
just wondering why and what's the reason for this behavoir.

Thats/Therefore I hope to find the solution for this problem.

Thank you and all the others for the kind replays.

Good luck to all of you, Salleke.
