CWBRN-34523 Can't create 1/8 note followed by a 1/4 without a rest between in Professional

I can create an 1/8 note followed by by 1/4 with NO rest in between in the Standard version of sonar x3, but when I try this in the Professional version, it won't let me. It always puts a space in between the two notes. Why? I thought maybe it was the grid size so I changed it an 1/8 and a 1/16 and I still could not enter the notes without  the space between the two. So what else am I missing. The resolution (or whatever it is called) was set to an 1/8 note too. I tried setting it to a 1/16 not but I still could not have the two notes follow each other without a rest.

In a separate trial,

I did create some sheet music in Notation and then saved as a midi file. I was able to import that into sonar X3. It played correctly, but the staff view was pretty messy. All these "tied" notes that weren't there in the sheet music. Not sure if they were really ties, as they didn't play that way.

Well, I've compared the two different versions, and I can't see any setting that are different.

So then I uninstalled Sonar Professsional, and then installed using the command center. But that didn't help either. I had to reinstall Additive Drums 2. Not sure if that is because I uninstalled, or if it is because I upgraded to Windows 10. But at least Additive Drums works now.

Only peculiar thing I can find is...in the Professional version. if I enter an eight note and don't follow it with an eight note, then if I check Fill duration, then the 1/8 note changes to a 1/4. If there are two 1/8 notes in a row, then they remain as eight notes. If I uncheck fill duration, then the eight notes revert back to eight notes.

However in the standard version that I bought, this doesn't happen. If I turn on fill duration, the eight notes remain eight notes.

Did importing the midi file mess something up? And shouldn't uninstalling and reinstalling fix it? I only tried importing as I thought that would save me the trouble of entering the music twice.

I also noticed that I can't follow a sixteen note immediately with an eight note either. Always get a rest in between. And if a quarter note is selected, the pencil icon only shows at the quarter marks. I have tried shutting off the snap to and I still can't put the notes where I want them.

Have you got smart grid turned on? and are you doing this in the staff or PRV

The staff view. I haven't figured out how to work with the piano roll yet. The staff view if the one I understand the best coming from a keyboard background.

Doesn't seem to matter if I turn smart grid on or off. Still won't let me follow an eight note with a quarter not without a rest. I can add two eight notes and then click on the second eight note and change the duration. But then it seems to throw in some extra rests that shouldn't be there. I have even set the grid side to an eight note. Didn't help. (I think the grid size is the drop down under the smart grid button in the default layout. I haven't changed anything. Or am I mistaken?)

In the standard version, smart grid can be on or off and I can still place the notes like I am trying. Also the grid can be set quarter and I can still follow and eight note with a quarter note without a rest in between. (Display resolution is set to an eighth.)

I did upgrade to Windows 10 a few days ago. Not sure if that could be related.

    Thanks

This looks like a bug introduced in the "Everett" update.  I can reproduce the behavior reported in the OP.  I had to rollback to the "Dorchester" update to get the Staff View to respond as expected.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Start new project
    2. Insert MIDI track
    3. Open Staff View
    4. Disable Snap to grid
    5. Set Event Draw Duration to 1/8 in Tool HUD
    6. Click Staff View with Smart Tool at first beat
    7. Set Event Draw Duration to 1/4 in Tool HUD
    8. Click Staff View with Smart Tool on 1/8 note rest

Expected Results:  An 1/8th note followed immediately by a 1/4 note followed by an 1/8th note rest.

Actual Results:  An 1/8th note followed by an 1/8th note rest followed by a 1/4 note.  [FAILED]
