New Song in Progress
I haven't had much time in the last 6 months to do much. This song hit me kinda all at once, and though not finished (on any front, esp. lyrics/vox) it is a fun process. I'm loving Platinum. All parts done ITB save for the guitars via AxeFx Ultra/RCF NX12-SMA cab and Bluebird. Thoughts on tone, q, etc. are much appreciated even for this rough. Thanks for taking time to listen - Shep https://www.dropbox.com/s/h1gsdrwqm6jmshl/New%20Song%20Gtrs%2008032015%20clip.mp3?dl=0 Click link, Click Download, X out Create Account, wait for the DL to finish, it should play automatically.

Good start Shep. Given the guitar tone I'd consider a light chorus on the bass or maybe a 2-3db boost between 1-2k. Just too a little snap. Or maybe not.

Thanks for chiming in, Bapu. Do you feel the guitar tone is outta whack in relation to the rest?

Can you post a link to Soundclick or Soundcloud or BOX or something. I don't really want to download it cause I am still cleaning stuff off my computer from when I used to. I'd really like to hear it. No problem if you can't.

Ha, thanks, Shep. I did the download just now. This is really a great tune structurally. The mix seems off to me but i am not adept at telling you what is wrong with this freq or that freq. Somehow it just doesn't gel together for me. All the parts are there and I know it's a work in progress so I will keep watching. I love your chord changes. Thanks for taking the time to do the SC link.

Are you playing bass or is it a synth? On my second listen and am really enjoying the tune. That's gotta be a real bass and well played I am going to listen till I figure out what is bothering me.

Thanks a lot for listening, guys - much appreciated. There will be vocals (I love harmony). There are still guitar parts missing in the intro and choruses and bridge. I grew up on Rock/Progressive, and love bands like EWF, so this is a hybrid of all that I guess. Warren - that's Trilian bass, triggered from my 61 key controller. I began as a bassist, so at least I have a bit of experience to draw from to try to make it reasonable.

Overall it sounds pretty good from here. Nice punch and thickness. About the only nit I would add is that there's a lot of brightness across the instruments - not really "harsh", but it seems to add up. I'm not sure if you can adjust to compensate when there are multiple layers happening at once, but that's about the only thing I can offer at this point. Look forward to hearing it complete.

I appreciate the close listen and comment. Maybe I spent more time getting everything in a dense mix to show up than find smooth in the mix.
