New Video Card...

Hi there everyone,
I am about to upgrade to a new Nvidia GTX 960 video card(what I can afford budget wise..) and was wondering if the performance for Sonar, screen refreshes, using Izotope Mastering software and plugins, etc. will be greatly improved by purchasing this video card??
I currently have an AMD HD5700 video card with only 512MB of ram running at 812Mhz speed
thanks..

That card should be more than enough for Sonar's needs and then some.....it's used in the gaming world (which is much, much more demanding than DAW work) and has held it's ground pretty well. Do you game as well?

I do both and got my graphics card mostly for my gaming needs.

I have noticed that my current video card doesn't seem to hold a candle anymore when I multi-task...like have Sonar open, Vegas Pro, etc..

Since you're using Vegas Pro, I now see the need for a solid video card that can handle the requirements. Have you checked the reviews on the GTX 960 and how it handles video editing? I'm sure it probably does as it can handle most of the games they tested.

    Good luck with this!!

    PS.
If you like FPS, check out TF2 (Team Fortress 2).....I'm totally hooked on that and best of all it's free to play. I'm Meshodman on Steam (if you'd like to play sometime)

    cool...thanks..
yeah.....the reviews what I have read, most of them say, that the 960 can handle pretty much anything thrown at it, including 4k 1080p gaming, High frame rates, etc....
so that's why I figured to get this card to help with what I do, etc..

    Hi,

    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

I use the GTX970 on my fun machine. The music machine has the GTX960 which rates quite below the top cards.

The GTX 970, for example has driver issues ... if you check the purple onion stuff and other tests, it does fine, but on World of Warcraft, on zone "changes" it has a nasty hesitation, which would suggest bad code design, and poor integration with the vide cards.

That hesitation does show up in music. For example, if I load up one of the radio shows I have from 1974 and 1975, and they are highest quality mp3, somewhere in the middle of it, there is a hesitation every so slightly ... when playing them on Sonar. it does not happen when these are played on that other free program over the internet, that records and such. (not a daw!).

So, I can not tell you, right now ... which is the issue, but since Sonar/Cakewalk won't discuss video at all on their software, makes this whole thing a bit ... strange. I, personally, think that the main windows on every DAW, are too busy for the video card, but I doubt they are busier than a World of Warcraft raid with 25 people, for example, and the game has video settings that allow you to turn down the quality of the video, which a DAW, normally, would not require high quality, or the best. is my thought.

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

    Hi,

Btw ... the 960 of mine ate up one of those Military motherboards ... that ought to teach me to stick with Asus!

Thanks guys....all this information helps out a lot...I'm definitely going to go with the GTX960 for better performance, etc.:)

plus I'm sure the latest doom redone when it comes out will still look kick A$$ compared to my poor AMD GPU hahahaha:)
