We bought a 2014 Volt at a dealer two and half hours away. It's pretty slick.

I'm holding out for the Plymouth Current. I think maybe they should rename the Chevy Volt... the Chevy Ohm.

I'll be curious to find out how much your electric bill goes up. If I remember correctly the Volt has a 40 mile range (for electric only). I live 19 miles from work. So if I charged up everyday...how much would my electric bill be compared to gas? Nice car...I like it!

That really depends on what your mpg is now and where you live: http://www.neo.ne.gov/statshtml/204.htm. Arkansas is the 4th lowest at $.0785 per kwh. Virginia is #20 at $.0925 per kwh. It's all just math once you have the rates and specs on the charger. Rocky

We expect to pay around 1/3 the money per mile for electric miles. We hope for roughly 75 percent of our miles to be electric. Price is effected also by when you charge and how fast you can charge. There is 8 and 12 amp charging speeds at 110 as well as a 220 speed we haven't yet been able to try as it requires new hardware. The car can be scheduled to charge when rates are lowest, but this presumes you are able to charge quickly. If you have to charge all night, there is little benefit to scheduling the charge. I'll post our miles at first gas fill up. I know we charge as we go, but this should give us a sense of electric miles over total miles. My math suggests saving 1000 per year in powering the car is a conservative estimate. We paid 32K for the car and get 7.5K relief on taxes since we pay more than that in taxes. So, the car will end up costing 24.5K and we save 1K per year of ownership.

I for one will be interested in seeing how this turns out. I like the tech, but it also needs to be practical. If your numbers are correct...it will be a no-brainer.

You guys may think I'm evil, but It needs to make sense financially first...if it's better for the environment, that would be a bonus.
