Why do all amplifiers nowadays look like 1950's furniture?

Check out this site of a dutch guitar builder and amp importer and look at the models they sell:
http://www.haarguitars.com/product-category/amplifiers/

Some examples for the lazy / impatient.

At that rate, I'd rather have Epiphone's 1939.

As to why?

I am not sure. We seem to have reached a point where everything is so bland and heartless that people find old designs comforting, whether it's those big black Buddy Holy glasses or Relic guitars or SS Youth haircuts.

Everything is recycled.

If you're not convinced, then:

Form over substance.

IMHO, the Kemper looks like some sort of old hospital device or military radio.  Which I actually dig.

Retro is all the rage nowadays. And it's a great sales gimmick.

How about faux wood...

Or actual wood...

My grand-parents had one of those. Makes me smile when people complain about what MP3s does to music. I used to listen to Van Halen 1 on that thing and it rocked my world.

The old Marshall employees made my favorite amp, and it's black...

A deep chesty bawl echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain, and fades into the far blackness of the night. It is an outburst of wild defiant sorrow, and of contempt for all the adversities of the world. - Aldo Leopold

I'd love to try that Iommi signature amp - as for the rest, from a design point of view, it's perfect. :P
