Edirol Fa-101... no sound through microphone or guitar

Hi guys, hopefully someone can help me with this

MY Edirol has been working fine for what I've needed (playing output from daw).

I recently bought some new leads for my mic and I have a guitar I used to plug in and record too.

With my previous interface everything worked fine and I managed to record various samples.

With my Edirol I get absolutely no sound coming through the inputs (1 or 2).
The signal is present when I run through studio one if I raise the levels, if I tap the microphone it jumps but no actual sound coming through.

I have reinstalled drivers and made sure the correct input has been selected within my DAW, I've even tried with different software such as audacity.

Now to add onto my problems last night I was using my interface and headphones (DT 770's).

Only when playing through the interface the right speaker sounds like its blown and is really flappy, when I play it through the headphones port on my pc it is fine....

Now I guess the question is.... do I repair it or do I get a new interface... or is there a potential fix for this.

I run the card through a pci firewire card if that makes any difference.

Sorry for the essay and thanks in advance for any help!

    Welcome to the forum.
Is the microphone a condenser mic? You'll need to turn phantom power on to get an adequate signal if it is.
If you're hearing the audio from your computer speakers, then you're not using the Edirol's ASIO driver. Download the latest driver for your device and OS here:
    http://www.roland.com/products/fa-101/downloads/
then use the FA for both input and output because
    A. you'll get better performance from the device and
    2. you'll be unable to use 2 devices at a time when using ASIO, which is a good thing.

Hi Greg, thanks for your reply.

Yes it's a condenser mic and the phantom power switch is on.

I have downloaded the latest driver from that page... also tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  I can get sound playing out the speakers so I know the device is working.  It's just that I can't seem to record any sound at all using the device.

Plug in a set of headphones to test as that will allow you to listen to the Edrol as a stand alone device.
The picture below shows a typical settings for the controls but I would use a lower sample rate to start with like 44.1 or 48.
I'm guessing the "soft Control'  button needs to be set correctly so read the manual. Is this either stand alone or software control?  This switch might even be what is causeing the change. If it's on then you need to open the software mixer to make settings.
Your inputs are set up so that a Mike would use Chanel1 and a Guitar Channel 2 with the HiZ pushed in.
First does the guitar cable work when plugged into a guitar amp?
If so then use that first and you should hear the guitar in the headphones. If not something IS broken.

Other things I see is the Firewire lght should come on to verifiy power and connection. You may want to use a Wall wart power supply which is always going to be more stable.

    Thanks for the reply guys...

I think the interface was definitely faulty as I bought a focusrite and it all worked first time...
