Music Creator Six Problem

I'm having an issue with the instrument assignments. I'm not a noob, and have been using Cakewalk since it was DOS so I know my way around this thing, but I can't figure this out.

I put Music Creator 6 on my lap top and it functions like it should (loaded sequences are running/meters are going etc)...but, it won't let me assign any instruments, or tracks to instruments at all....All the midi channels in the drop downs on the channel strips all say - <Default>
I did go to preferences>Midi> instruments and all of that looks like it should. I see my Korg 01/W in the definitions table and have assigned all the midi channels to their respective midi outs, but it won't do anything. I even tried to assign channels to the roland's, (just to see if it would recognize them) or the generic sound bank that's listed....and it just stays on the <default> option...
Anyone know how to correct this??? I really need this to work

Music Creator 6 Touch/PC/Windows7/64bit

Thanks
Jason

    Hi Jason,
I did go to preferences>Midi> instruments and all of that looks like it should. I see my Korg 01/W in the definitions table and have assigned all the midi channels to their respective midi outs, but it won't do anything. This tells me you're looking in the wrong place (or you are explaining it wrong).  PREFERENCES>MIDI>INSTRUMENTS is not for selecting the MIDI I/O which will show up in the track selections, INSTRUMENTS is for selecting the instrument definitions which allow the bank and patch information for your specific instrument to show up when assigning those parameters.

PREFERENCES>MIDI>DEVICES is where you assign or deselect your MIDI I/O.  check there and see if your Korg is assigned (checkbox checked) for inputs and outputs.

Hey Beagle...good to see you again. One of these days you have to stop by and see what i have going on here...I appreciate you reading my post however.

Yeah I have been to both places (Instruments/Devices) and I think the I/O section is set up right, but for some reason the assign instrument section won't function. It's non responsive and stays on the default setting no matter I assign to it...Anyway good to see you again. I hope all is well on your side of town...Jason

Hi Jason - things have been busy in Ft. Worth! lol

if it won't let you change the settings, then maybe this is a windows problem.  try running MC in ADMIN mode (right click on the icon on the desktop and choose "Run As Admin"
