A nice sample of me playing at full tilt... (AKA: What I did with half my summer)
It has recently come to my attention that despite my constant blathering here on the forum many folks haven't actually heard me play (at least not in my native genre... metal). I have been more concentrating on learning production than cranking out tunes. Hopefully that will change soon. However my new friend from Norway, Oyvind (username Jarsve) invited me to play on another one of his band's efforts. This time instead of just a quick guitar solo on an old hair ballad it's a full on symphonic thrash metal production. I got to do all the guitars including a ton of cool solos (all written by Jarsve except for the main solo and a couple of little extra noodles which I wrote). Dude is an awesome song writer and I think he did a great job producing it. Check it out... http://forum.cakewalk.com/New-song-Kj%C3%A6rlighet-m3272019.aspx Hope you like it. /shamelss plug

I'm sorry, but I can't listen until you identify exactly what type of metal this is. Feel free to use the helpful chart below. (Actually, I REALLY need to listen to this on something other than my $1 special PC speakers - It comes out sounding like Jake E. Lee playing K-Pop which, I'm sure, is not the desired effect! LOL!)
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

Heh... yeah I gave up on "proper" metal definitions shortly after it got more complicated than "Glam" and "Thrash". I just make up my own names for my stuff (like "Dork Metal" or "Dumpster Core"). I think he was going for whatever Drangonforce and Babymetal are but with an old school vibe carrying it. Lots of classical type movement in it which was interesting to play (since I am not really a classical theory dude). And yeah... definitely need some half decent speakers to get the full effect. The rhythm guits are actually two distinct parts creating stacked up chords (like Metallica used to do) and both parts were doubled so you want a bit of ball lifting power from the speakers to get the right effect. Lots of wacky doubling and harmonizing in the solos too that may not come through on teeny weeny speakers. Cheers!

Great playing and great production, all the guitars come through loud and clear and you can hear every note of your solo. Always good to hear some melodic, harmonically interesting metal playing that isn't just shredding for the sake of it

Yeah, he really wrote this well. Even when it was all just MIDI I knew it was going to turn out epic. Very well orchestrated and I really dig the vox. He's allowing me to do my own mix (for educational purposes) so I'm rebuilding it from the ground up from the original MIDI tracks using all my own VSTs and effects. It's really helping me solidify a bunch of stuff I've mostly only been reading about. Not sure how well it'll turn out but so far it's working out well. Thanks for checking it out. trimph3 My wife and I listened to this. Great sounding guitars and that solo!! Wow!!
Thanks, dood (and wife doodette)! synkrotron I like Dork Metal
