Celtic like music- Twilight Breeze

I was in music mindset last night and I made this one from start to finish. Played with an acoustic guitar and a D tuned uke..the uke actually has two steel and two nylon strings. Some guy on ebay sells em'. The uke isn't anything special but I like instruments that add a different feel to the music here and there. This is six acoustic tracks in total four of which are a martin guitar. Two stereo tracks...  I hear a few parts stepping on one another in small places and I'm curious about how the guitars are coming across. Do they sound too tinny? I'm also thinking that the arrangement ramps up a little too early.

I dunno Tim... I reckon that sounded bang on, on my headphone set-up. I wouldn't change a thing, personally.

I'm listening again now and I like how it gets straight down to it. But it would also work to bring in perhaps the uke first, and then follow up with the guitars.

Great composition Tim. I enjoyed listening

cheers

I agree with Andy, this sounded really good on my system.  And I've NEVER started and finished ANYthing in one day, so count me as a jealous admirer.

great stuff ! magnificant guitars and a nice spirit/feel to it.
Sounds very clear, well balanced, open.
if you fixed this in a day, take my hat off

what might help the mix (not sure) is if you take 1 or 2 instruments that play throughout the song...and put them mono in center only with no side signal (or maybe just a tiny bit) (flip mono interleave button on track, or take down side signal with Channel Tools fe).
I'm thinking that might give you a better image, more solid, and better seperation between the instruments.
That's just something I'd try & not sure if it really works.

In terms of arrangement, maybe from a loop or so, you could build a sort of a very catchy theme (easy Keltic melody line on guitar + flutes fe) and let that come back a few times...and do some other stuff in between.
enjoyed listening to the song + all the best.

Nice stuff Tim, I like the sound you are getting out of the Martin.
Perhaps some volume automation tracks too get a bit more dynamic feel.

Cheers,

All in all very nice

Personally I would add one minor tweak to take a little of the edge off it as there are a few little places where it could do with some softening.  Like say the tape emulator on the master bus to just round it out.

Holy Planxty! Really really good. Mixwise, I thought the acoustic guitar was dominating all throughout the song, and I wanted more of the flutey stuff to take the forefront periodically. Just a choice thing, that one.

The timing of all elements was tight! And then the end has a slight ritard, very good, very good!

cheers,
-Tom

Sweet stuff Tim.  What are you using for the flute, and the (not sure) harmonium background drone sound?  I'm also hearing some piano here and there?

The guitar sounds are nice and bright, but not too much.  Sounds great.

And the arrangement seems fine to me.  This could be used in a movie for a sunny outdoor driving scene through the mountains/forests.

Hey, Tim,

Really nice job on this beautiful piece of Celtic music!  I really love the rich tone of the acoustic, and the excellent playing, and how the flute and woodwind parts float both under and over the guitar in different sections.

Super work, Tim, both very relaxing and interesting at the same time!

Great stuff, have a good one, buddy!

Man I am so sorry to take such a long time getting back here. Life has been crazy. I can't ever seem to sit down any more. I started playing sessions a few times a week and this is making me a better musician but it takes even more of my time away.

Andy- I tried to bring the uke up but I could only get it 6ft or so. How high did you want it? :):) Thanks for your comments!

Phil- Many thanks for stopping by. I seldom get something completed this fast. The one I'm on now is taking forever to finish :) Thanks for commenting I really appreciate it!

Wouter- Thanks for your suggestions! I never considered doing that. I am open to anything that would give the mix more space, yet keep everything separated and solid. Much appreciate your input!

Billy- I love this Martin and it's one of the cheap ones. I think they managed somehow to get that Martin feel and sound in a 500 range instrument. I can't afford a nice one right now so I was happy that this fits the bill.. Thanks for your comments on the song!

Wookie- Thank you for commenting. I am using channel strip emulation on all channels. I might have boosted the mids too much or maybe there's something I forgot to change. I'll look at this. Thank you!

Warren- Thank you!

cwestmont- I appreciate your comments!Thanks!

Daniel- Thanks for listening!

ohgrant- Thank you !

Tom- Thank you for your comments. I plan to re examine this whole thing again. I'll definitely look at the flute volume in relation to the rest.

Walt- I'm not being evasive Walt but I honestly don't remember the sample set maker. It was a guy out west who makes several celtic related sample sets...nevada sounds or something like that. If you search bagpipe or celtic flute vst I'm sure his name will pop up.Thanks for your comments. Hey let me know when you get out here again ok?

Bob- Thank you! Very much appreciated.

Rebel007- I'm glad to hear it sounds ok on a larger system. You have a better half? I'm glad she likes it :) Thank you!

SteveC- Thank you Steve!

Biodode- Thanks for  commenting biodoe. Did you listen to Planxty? Clannad? Just curious?

Mark- Thank you !!

I feel bad it took me so long to get back here guys I've missed the place. My employer is trying to kill me lol.
