Epi Double neck in da house!

what a beast to play!
but sounds excellent.......
borrowed from a friend, i'm not sure if it's ever been used on a recording before.
the EPI pickups, thru my rig, are very stout and midrangy,
which makes the tracks really stand out against all my other ones.

these shots are from a session for a song called "Road to Tabriz"......
i posted an instrumental version of it a ways back....
the addition of the 12-string made the parts i wrote for it sound a bit 'mid eastern',
which was the reason for pulling this axe into the mix........

so, when i first started dialing in sounds thru the boogie and speakers,
i was using some amount of gain..
but the more i played with it,
the more i realized it just needed to be clean.....
then it all fell together.

i currently have EL84's in the boogie (instead of the typical 6L6's) by way of an adapter,
and it gives the boogie a bit of a Vox voicing to it.....
so it really works for these particular tracks.

this song is one of NINE new tunes on a new album i'm putting out shortly,
called "Stay"
more info to come..................

I've played a friend's Gibson once - as you mention, they're a best to play, but what you get out of them is totally worth it. The Epiphone would likely be better aligned w/ my own budget.

yep, the epi may have a bolt on neck,
but the sonics are still close enough.

    the pickups sound really good......

    the wow factor,
    well,
does not supercede the sore back factor.

Never had any issue with Epiphone pick ups - except maybe on the very, very cheap guitars such as the little Junior. But the ones on the LP standard have their use and their version of the Classic 57 + Probucker on the Traditional sound great.

Of course, I'm not that picky compared to some.

you can hear the 12 - string on the first verse, when the vox come in.....
    then hear and there throughout....
there are 4 tracks, each doing something different, but all at once.

about half of what i tracked, i took out.
i just needed the 'flavor' that the 12 string offered on a few parts...
but i pretty much tracked with it thru the entire song!!
    LOL

    just cuz it was new.......

    Hi,

I have the long scale version of that ... the EB-3. It's OK, nothing to write to mom, or dad about!

The sad part is that the EB, short scale or the long scale are only about 1/10th the quality of the original EB-0 that had the pegs going the other direction. It's like one was wood, in the old days, and the ones now are just hard plastic with very poor mechanics and sound.  (nowadays it's an epi, not a Gibson, though they are trying to make a high end version which I kinda wonder if it's worth a nickl more than the Epi version!)

I got a deal on it last September when Sweetwater did their annual guitar sale. Gibson was upgrading the hardware and a couple of other things for the next model year, and Sweetwater had 10 of these 2013 flat/satin finish basses. This is the one I bought. Only $600! It's nice to have a short scale along with my 1963 repro Fender J. Sounds great.

One of the things I love about Sweetwater is the way they present their guitars. Every single one is photographed 8-10 times from different angles. They even included a photo of the case that came with it. Gives you a good chance to see the grain on both sides, for example. Plus, they weigh each one. Of the 10 they had on hand, one was very heavy and one was very light. Skipped both. One had the jack input and bottom control knob reversed (I clued them in on that and they fixed it and rephotographed it). Really nice to get the exact guitar by serial number that you're expecting.

    maartian,
this is a song that i'm getting ready to release for sale, on cd

i'm actually doing final mixes on the whole project now,
i've been posting each song for a couple of days to get listener feedback on it,
which i have used to great advantage so far....

my older already-released material i sometimes allow for free download....
    but not this one.
