Does the new start up screen really have advertisements?
Does the new start up screen really have advertisements? If so can they be disabled? Rocky

The only option right now is to create a firewall rule to block them (at your own risk), or just stop using it and go back to the original (in preferences).

So the old start screen is still available in preferences? The whole "However, this requires creating a project folder manually when you save" if you bypass the start screen in the ezine seems counter intuitive. Rocky

Really?! I'll be disappointed if that's the case. Especially on paid software. Too much unwanted marketing, in-app purchasing systems and 'big data' trawling is invading my computer life.

Let's wait and see what actually happens. Nothing has happened yet so speculation will get us nowhere.

The speculation is removed when the software gets installed and used. I am waiting from someone in this thread to report what they see when they are using the software.

Speculation may be removed ... but not necessarily the ads. Just voicing an opinion in the hope that I, and the community, can help shape the software that I/we use.

The only persons I have read using the words ads and advertisements are you and the OP. I guess this is in reference to this passage from the eZine The notifications “bell” in the upper right shows the number of unread notifications, so you don’t need to click to find out if there’s anything new. Notifications include update announcements for SONAR (you won’t have to keep looking for that sticky at the top of the forum any more), links to new blog posts, Cakewalk related news, limited-time offers, and the like. Most notifications have clickable links to take you to a web page with more information.
I don't see much to get alarmed about. Again, first see how it works before coming to conclusions or making suggestions to improve it.

... and the only reference I had seen was that of the OP. That, as quoted, sounds OK - somewhat Spotify and Soundcloud like. Anyway - enough said - let's wait and see.

There are notifications for updates, news, and special offers. It's very non-intrusive and done purely to inform customers of things they might want to know about. You can always use the old fashioned method of just ignoring it. It only shows up if you click on it.

Thank you Andrew. So, yes there are Cakewalk advertisements. As to my second question, can they be disabled? Is it an option to use the old start screen as the Doctor suggested above? Is there a way to skip the new start screen without the requirement to manually create project folders? Thanks again. Rocky

Yeah, it's pretty much exactly like that. Completely non-obtrusive. So far, I've seen a notification for the last update, and one for a special offer on Concrete Limiter. And as has been mentioned, you don't see them at all if you don't click on the icon.

Don't know what the fuss is about really....it is a tiny little indicator at the top right. It does not flash, create noises or sing and dance. It just is there IF you want to see what is happening. Or not. It's not like IK Multimedia for example...

Indeed. If it was pop-up ads appearing while I'm trying to get work done, I'd be up in arms about it, but it's entirely innocuous, and even useful.

bluzdog Thank you Andrew. So, yes there are Cakewalk advertisements.
By saying "special offers," I assume Cakewalk means time-sensitive promotions, compared to having you open up SONAR and have it say "BUY MUSIC CREATOR!! WHAT AN EFFING GREAT PROGRAM!!" The upside is maybe the "There's a special?" "When is it?" When does it end?" forum posts will go away if people check the notifications

I think if they are sending us notifications, it's only fair we should be able to send them back. Like "Hey how's the patch for the concrete limiter and Rapture Pro doing"? I know I am evil...

I see it as the least instructive ad system I have seen. You will have to click on the bell to see any information about new stuff. It does not intrude into the project listing screen unless you want it to.

I don't know. If it's selling something it's an advertisement wouldn't you say.
Of course, but there are different kinds of advertisements and some are more intrusive than others. Some also have less value than others. Some people will want to be informed of these things, some won't. Some will want to know about new blog posts, some won't...some people get upset when they didn't know that something was on special. Here's an example. Brian Hardgroove's bass loops library was supposed to go into the store, but it never did. Lately I've gotten several PMs about "Can't find Brian's library" and I've said "Look in the store." But it wasn't in the store. Now it is. A notification saying "Brian Hardgroove's library is now in the Cakewalk store" would be helpful to those who had been looking for it, and wondering when it would ever show up. Another example is when I replaced a sample in the EB5 bass library. It would have been very convenient to have a notification that said "If you have the EB5 library, download a replacement note sample here." I just don't see something like that as all that onerous. The bottom line is it doesn't take very long NOT to read something out of a list of items you do want to read. If on the other hand I start seeing ads for Clorox....that's a different story!
