Would someone please verify

Would someone please verify that the only way the new start menu shows any projects if you are on line?  My system is off line and when I start Sonar the start menu is blank however if I'm on line then it works just fine.  I'd like to know if this is specific to my system or if it is universal.

If I disable the start menu then Sonar opens but no start menu.  I was hoping that the old start menu would return.

The only time my system is on line is during Sonar updates and that is not going to change.

Thanx in advance for your time.

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

    Not seeing a problem here:

    - Closed Start Screen, unplugged the LAN, and still got the expected Recent Projects view.
    - Restarted SONAR  and still okay.
    - Rebooted with no LAN, and still okay.

Please confirm how you are offline. Are you right clicking and disabling the adapter (preferred method), or just pulling the plug. Thanks.

Actually both.  I disable the Ethernet card and I unplug the cable.  This is a desktop computer, just in case that matters.  Also no WiFi on it.

No problems here, although, on the laptop that was updated from 8 to 10 the start screen takes a bit longer than the windows 7 desktop that was updated to 10. Odd.

FYI if you disable the adapter you don't need to unplug the cable. It shuts down the whole network stack there's nothing happening.

So the question is, are people who are not experiencing this, just pulling out the chord? Maybe you could try that as well (don't disable the adapter).

We've already got another confirmation by disabling the adapter:

You might also want to try updating your network adapter drivers (always worth doing anyway).

Yes I know that I don't need to unplug the ethernet cable when I disable the adapter but when I set everything up I did not anticipate getting on line thus the cable is right in the way.  I may have to change that.

The adapter drivers are up to date.
I enabled the adapter and unplugged the cord - no difference.
I disabled the firewall - no difference.
    Bypass router - no difference.
Note that there is no anti-virus on this computer.

The only way the start menu works properly thus far is when I am on line.

    Any ideas anyone?

Missed that! My speculation would be windows update needs to be run here (maybe there are errors in the event viewer to look at)...

Ultimately if you want to run offline you should not be updating any software whatsoever, Inc Sonar which may rely on the latest libraries. Otherwise you are expecting new software relying on old dependencies. Not a good combination.

So my advice if 'it's not going to change' is to stop updating Sonar and your plugins. And do not introduce any new software or new plugins.

Others experiencing this, try running windows update and updating your network drivers (shot in the dark), and check your event viewer for errors.

My mistake, I should have said the only time my music computer is on line is for updates.  That includes software and drivers.  Win 7 is up to date.

Most of my software I can update and validate off line.  I know that I can do this with Sonar but I find it much easier to do it on line.

When time permits I'm going back one upgrade, run it and then upgrade again.  Do you think this is a good idea?

My start menu is blank no matter if I'm on line or off. I always disable my nic card, virus software, firewall and turn on my virus software's silent mode so nothing runs while in sonar. Only once did it show the full image of a project in one square. Now there is only a sliver of an image in two squares. I know you have to save a project before it will show an image of it. That is if it decides to. I don't know how updating your network card driver or Windows update would have to do with the menu though. Maybe it's a path thing that the menu is supposed to point to or something like that. Pretty annoying to have a new feature that doesn't work. Not a game changer though.

When I boot while on-line the only error that I get is that the wave's activation thumb drive would not load.  That is probably because Sonar is not on yet as when I turn on Sonar all is well with the wave's VSTs.

When I boot while off line I get that error message as well plus the ethernet card driver did not load.  That would be expected I think.

Thus I think the problem is with that latest Sonar upgrade.  Like I said while on-line no problem but when I'm off-line no start menu icons.

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

You might also want to try updating your network adapter drivers (always worth doing anyway).

Unless it's a Intel Network Card. Then *don't* update the drivers. (or at least use DPC Latency Checker for big spikes...)

Why on earth would that be? If you have any issues afterwards you can easily roll back (one or two clicks), in almost all cases though new drivers are an improvement all round.

Anyway his drivers are up to date (and I suspect working perfectly well).

Sorry Mario - I had big problems when I updated my Intel Network Card drivers recently, and others had the same.
I just thought I'd bring that up...

I've kinda given up hope on this one. I'm having the same issue and e-mailed cakewalk on Monday and never got a reply. I just don't use the start screen now. Even though I think it would be useful.
