Audio Clip Problems

I searched the posts but found nothing related to this.  I record guitar tracks and everything seems to be working properly.  However, if I split the track and edit/copy and paste a copy of the split off piece of the track - a common practice I would assume - then empty clips appear at random places in the track, apparently whenever I either drag or paste.  This seems like a pretty profound bug.  Is this something I'm causing?  In addition, afterwards the audio data no longer displays and I'm forced to perform a "bounce to clip" to get it to reappear, but this is also accompanied by the appearance of additional copies of the clip and the track quickly becomes garbled and useless.  I am running under Windows 8.1 (don't you just love it?) and the Sonar Platinum Gloucester build.  Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

If Preferences > Customization > Editing "Drag and Drop - What to do with existing material" is set to "Slide Over Old to Make Room," try a different setting.

I changed the setting to "Blend Old and New".  I'll see if that helps.  Thanks!
