recording midi in sections

I often need to record a midi track in sections. To do this I usually re-play about 4 bars of the piece leading up to the next section I want to record. Previously, in HS6, hitting "record" re-played the previous bars of the track I'm using to record - and therefore able to hear it - before the start of the next section. In X3 the previous bars of the track are now silent.

I 've been through all the midi settings, but can't find how have the pre-recorded section of the track audible in order to continue correctly.

Anyone have this problem and know how to fix it??

Is this because you're in Comping record mode instead of Sound on Sound record mode?

Hi Guys...well you're both on the right track - no pun intended - and it could well be in comping mode. However having looked at the links, my record red button doesn't have the additional markings and using the right mouse doesn't bring up any mode options either. Finger trouble my end??

Make sure you're looking at the Transport section of the Control Bar (usually a bit to the left) and not the... 'Mix' section with the Mute/Solo/Record buttons. (Usually top centre.) (Hint to Cakewalk people - it would be nice if there was a tooltip or something for these.)

The new SONAR tooltip for the record button indicates the current recording mode. The tooltip in X3 did not.

Yep that's it - and yep Kylotan, I was looking in the track section, not the transport section!!

It's age I'm afraid.... and thank you both for your very quick replies. Now...back to the music!!

    Thanks again, much appreciated

Oh thank you guys! - I suck suck suck! at piano and was doing what the OP said with the same issue.
Also hitting record and running over the previous part was wiping out the previous part. I hope, I hope comping is the issue here too! ;-)
