Downloading Sonar trial versions...help

I would like to trial Sonar X1 or above ...(if indeed I am able too)

Ive gone to Command Centre but I'm only getting a few options such as Artist etc...

Can anyone give me a simple link to do this ?

Hi. CCC will only show SONAR 2015. Artist, Professional and Platinum. Older products will not show up.
You can download trial version through CCC. http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Try-SONAR#start
Did you make a Cakewalk account?
    Best of luck.

    Thanks..yes I thought so.

Could anyone advise me ? I know that the X1 Producer is the top version of X1 ...what is the next one down from that version ? Is it the Studio ?

There are some still for sale in retailers at good prices.

You should read the info here
    http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR

it explains about the versions and what you get.

Forget about the X versions unless you go buy one in a box from a store.
The names have changed and PLatinum is the highest version now.
I would start with Artist to see if you like it as they will then send you offers to upgrade at a better price than if you do it outright. There's nothing to lose now with the monthly plans for owning it outright and the many ways you can deal with paying for it.
I saved over $200 by slowly ugrading from X1 LE ( free)  to X3 Studio ( $99) , to Professional ( $99)  and now PLatinum. ( $199 ) And I still have all those other version on hand that I use on othe computers.

Thanks...I've been checking prices and Artist is available here for about £67....

I think the only thing I'll miss is Real Space covoluted Reverb from my Sonar 7 producer

I'll probably go for that option and as you say maybe upgrade at a later date.

This seems high. The published upgrade from SONAR 7 Producer is $49. The product is only available as a download so do not worry about buying a boxed version (unless you collect cardboard).

Oh sorry..I was talking about the box edition....I wasn't too sure if there was an upgrade straight from Sonar 7 to Artist.

I added some more info in the previous post about the box. There is no disk available for the new SONAR, the box contains a card to redeem the download from the Cakewalk site,

Well..I'm thinking about the times like I just bought a new PC a few months ago ...how would one transfer a software download..I've never done that..I guess it may be possible but it's yet another problem solving excercise for me anyway...and to be honest I've had my fill of those right now.

But if download is all there is I'll look into it..thanks for the info

How did you "transfer" software when you had an install disk? You didn't, it was a new install. The same is true with the new SONAR. Cakewalk provides a tool to manage their software, you used it to install the trial. The installers are stored locally on your PC. Those installers can be written to DVDs, copied to another drive/machine or deleted. When the Command Center is installed on the new machine, if it cannot find the installers it will download  them again.

i see ...thanks for your help.

Okay..so I download Artist to my internet PC, copy to DVD etc then reload onto my dedicated music PC ?
    does Cakewalk allow that ?

I don't want to ever connect my Audio PC to the web ...virus protection etc I want to keep it "clean".
I have a dedicated Intrnet PC and iPad for the web.

I'm happy to just do a fresh new install of Artist on my audio PC...but this Command Centre thing ?

Or to put it another way...how does someone with a "non Internet PC " get Artist on it as a fresh install ?

Once you have a Cakewalk account all your purchases are listed there and can be downloaded at any time. You don't need disks anymore. But if you must have one create your own. Its very simple.

Re: Downloading Sonar trial versions...help 2015/08/31 15:26:02 (permalink)
It would be easier to connect, even if only temporarily the audio PC, to the internet. How does the OS and other software get updated on the audio PC? While not required, once you purchase the new SONAR, it is updated monthly. It is still possible to download the installers without installing on the internet PC. It is also permitted to have SONAR installed on more than one machine. If you do elect to keep the audio PC disconnected refer to the section here http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Introduction.28.html on activating SONAR.

thanks for your help with all this...

I really don't think I'm bothered with updates etc etc...I just want a basic stable DAW

I'm wondering if Cakewalk is getting too complicated to use now ...I've been with them 10 years but I'll consider other DAWs ..

But again..many thanks for all your help.

You could go for SONAR Artist. Or even Music Creator 7, if you just want the basics?

Absolutely...but the whole sticking point is it doesn't come on disc.

So I download it on my internet PC ...but then how to migrate it to my dedicated audio PC ?

Cakewalk and the control centre thing and being registered and updates and god knows what....it's all too complicated ...

I'm looking for different less complicated system now. As mentioned just something basic and stable,

It is no more complicated than you want it to be. Burn your own disc, use an external HD (that is what I do) or usb stick. Don't update if you do not feel like it, and update if you feel you need to. Scook gave you a link on how to activate on offline pc.
I will stick my neck out and say that you will not get the help offered here on any other forum. The knowledge here on this forum is overwhelming, and only surpassed by the willingness to help

Thanks Zargg...yes I know this is a very good forum, I've had a lot of help over the years .

I searched about migrating from one machine to another but all I can see is migrating project files, the info might be there but I didn't find it. I thought it might be a query often asked...

So can you confirm ? I can download Artist straight onto a USB stick or external hard drive connected to my internet PC and then install it onto my audio PC ? If this is the case I'll certainly go for Artist..particularly if there's no need to bother with updates, if the system is stable ..I'll be happy...I won't bother with upgrading from Sonar 7...I'll just buy Artist and do a new install.. It's at a good price.

I've got a bridge in Brooklyn for if you just want to throw your money away. There is no reason to buy the non upgrade version if you qualify for the upgrade. You get the exact same thing. It wont need a previous version or will check up on you to be sure you have an older version.

    Just install it.

Yes, you may download the SONAR Artist installers directly from your store account and copy them to any PC you own. Then follow the authentication routine I linked to above.

And if you still want your Real Space convolution Reverb after playing with your new SONAR toys, just install SONAR 7, and use the plugins from that as well
