Fear not, I have returned unscathed from the clutches of evil (bar a strange involuntary twitch in my right middle finger) 2 hard crashes were enough to release the GAS, machine hasn't crashed in 3 or 4 years, played havoc with BFD, removed my paths, no biggie, but then would play loud and soft, loud and soft, like some kind of extreme humanization which I couldn't find the problem. Loaded BFD in REAPER and Sonar X3e, worked fine. Wouldn't save TH2's state (Preset etc), and that was enough for me, enough time wasted. Glad it was only on my test machine.

Gave me an opportunity to clean all the demos etc off the old girl anyway, do a bit of maintenance . Oh well, it looked nice, very slick, although a little hard to see for my old eyes, everything seemed to be smallish, had some good things going for it, but I'll have the stability of REAPER and Platinum any day.

Re: Forgive Me Father, For I Have Sinned 2015/09/11 06:28:14 (permalink)
I don't know about all that bacon sharing stuff... but I admit to having multiple DAWs installed right now, including:
  • SONAR Platinum (which I use for mastering, and older projects, and the occasional new one)
  • Ableton Live 9 Suite (which I use for most everything new these days, since I bought a Push early this year)
  • Sony SoundForge (which I use for post-mastering, just file trimming and final export formats)
  • Studio One 2 Producer (I tried it as my main DAW for a few months in 2014, didn't love it, switched back to SONAR at the time)
  • Reaper (tried it briefly, but never uninstalled it)
  • Bitwig Studio demo version (tried it as a possible alternative to Ableton Live, but not quite ready for prime time yet, IMHO)
I started using CWPA 8, and have been a loyal purchaser of every product upgrade and version since then.  However, as I got more and more interested in electronic music, I felt a need to explore something more "trigger based" rather than Cakewalk's standard track-by-track DAW layout.  I looked really hard at SONAR's "Matrix View", but found it buggy and unusable.  Now that I've invested in Ableton Live (and Push), I can't live without their "Session View" (trigger-based DAW layout), "Live Packs" (huge number of sample libraries with lots of electronic sounds), and I've gotten comfy with their audio effects.

Having said all that, my biggest disappointment has been that I CANNOT use both Ableton Live and SONAR together, because SONAR is completely incapable of running as a ReWire slave, and, while Ableton Live CAN run as a slave, when in slave mode the Push and all Plugins are disabled.  But the Push doesn't work in SONAR, nor do the Ableton Live Packs, and as I mentioned above, Matrix View seems inferior to Ableton's "Session View".  I'd really love to be able to record and edit individual tracks (both midi and audio) from inside SONAR, while working with Ableton's Session View as the ReWire master.

cool stuff Walt
I hope Cakewalk decides to spruce up the matrix to the point where you can record in it like you can with Abelton Live cells …..
I still use Project 5 over the SONAR Matrix view , also I Love to use SONY Acid Pro every once in a  while ….
On my Mac I run Logic Pro 9 , MainStage 2 , Mix3us 3 , Soundtrack Pro , Wave Burner, Live 9 and an Older Version of Cubase ….
yep , I guess I owe a few thousand Hail Mary's for an attempt at redemption

I also have old versions of Project 5 and ACID Pro (v5 is the latest I have a license for, back in 2004).

I always liked P5, and was disappointed that Cakewalk stopped updating it after version 2.51.  After they did, I had hoped they might integrate more of the tech into CWPA/SONAR, but alas, that hasn't really happened either.

I haven't messed around with ACID for a long time.  I could upgrade for $60 to the latest, but is there any compelling reason to do so?  It seems like a DAW with very limited capabilities when compared with Ableton Live, or SONAR.

Hello Walt,

It appears to me that you were able to take it way up to the next level from Project 5 and Acid Pro by getting Live Suite and Push …You sure got the top shelve there …
I'm on a lighter version of Live and I'm enjoying myself learning my way around it .
Suite is a long way off for me money wise at the moment yet I would deffintly Love to go there ….

Compelling reasons to go to Acid Pro 7 …..it has a lot going against it as far as being long in the tooth , being 32 bit and what ever other fill in the blank things we can think of  ….
Me personally , I think it broke new ground and it was an industry standard for a long time. We all know that was once upon a time …
The most compelling reasons I can think of at this point is , as an application SONY ACID pro  still has a lot of value as a creative musical tool where a person can score a film from scratch and render the music in various formats  with very little effort
You may already have that base covered in some other apps….certainly not in P5 or Abelton Live
