I have been watching this Movie in dribs and drabs over the past few days …..
It was found it at the public library a couple of weeks ago …..so i nabbed it to bring home .
I have very mixed strong feelings about the film to be honest with you ….( whomever )
The Music Business happens to be a very Polarizing topic to me …I've had a taste first hand back in the day
The whole premiss that these players combined play all the only good music from that era is a load of CRAP to begin with . On one level for me it may be true that when I was young I may have dug many of the tunes and songs these folks were responsible for having played and performed on ….That I will concede up to a point .
The fact is for me most of the music I have listened to over the years that has stood the test of time for my ears has nothing to do with any of the tunes these cats have put out …..for the sake of brevity in this post I will choose not to mention Artists , Bands or Tunes , that Smoke these cats ….
For me it was a momentary glimpse as a outsider getting a peek into the closed door "supposed" Golden Era of The Recording Industry …( West Coast version )
The only things I found worthwhile were a couple of the same recurring themes….
Oh . I didn't know he did that or so thats the engineer who did the mixing of that tune …
I found some value in parts of the interviews regarding how some folks have gotten their start / foot in the door .
Some of the memory lane stuff was OK in the respect that a few people did bring up a few of the compromises they had to choose to live with …
I can tell that a few folks in the vid missed
the white washed version of camaraderie they once had .
( I spent 10 years in LA …the quickest way out the door is to express your true opinion ..politics and acting ability count much more than having talent )this is a lesson I have yet to fully learn and implement , it seems I still like to shoot myself in the foot when I open my mouth which my current post will testify too Also a few folks seem to miss the first class ticket they may of had once on the
high money gravy train ….
Yeah , rather than slam the thing which I won't ..
I'm fully aware that a lot of these folks did more and made more in 2 weeks then my whole career combined … The one thing that I will have to say that is enduring for me after watching this film is , This film is an excellent tutorial on the art of bull$hit and how to bull$hit your way all the way to the top . Kenny
PS : Mr Tommy T …I did enjoy your little guitar moment on the classical …
I don't know if you know this or not beings as you are in the spirt world ….I was able to play along with you note for note while playing my classical on most of your tune as I heard it for the first time …..
I may even to decide to spend an hour or two to get it up to speed since I did enjoy what you played ….
Is there any chance I can channel your spirit from the spirt world and would you be willing to give me lessons on the art of musicians politics and how to BS my way into a gig or two….I could sure use the money and the opportunities your help may bring me.
I keep shooing myself in the foot over here because I'm just a little too outspoken for most folks in my nature and the way I carry myself .
Please consider my request …I promise I will be a good student . It's a guaranteed set of Golden Wings for you if you happen to decide to help me …..
We all know , myself included ……I am way beyond human help and I can sure use a new guardian angel …
