CA-2A - problems and crackling

Hi all,

I'm having a few problems with my CA-2A compressor (in Sonar X3)
1.  The Meter Select knob on the right,  isn't movable.  It is stuck on "Gain Reduction" and a mouse-click or drag will not move it.

2. The CA-2A makes all my tracks really crackly when I use it.   And my tracks are all low enough level-wise.  I've started from 0 Gain on the CA2A and worked up and even at 0 it crackles like crazy.    And then when you turn it off in Track or ProChannel view,  or even if you delete from the track itself, it still crackles very very badly.     The sound is just fine before I added it to a track, but once I add and even take it away or turn it off, the bad crackling stays present.

If on, try turning off 64-bit Double Precision Engine in Preferences > Audio:Driver Settings and see if that helps.

Let us know what happened after the reset (see link).

Time for general maintenance I suggest....

If you run ASIO4ALL please completely remove it.
    Try temporarily disabling your virusscanner.
    Backup.
Update your audio interface and drivers.
    Update your display driver.
    Goto intel driver update site.
    Update your BIOS.
    Run windows update everywhere.
    Defrag.
Run latencymon and see if you can see some problem applications/drivers.
Reduce the number of programs running on startup.
    Disable unnecessary services.

If that does not clear it you need to look at upping your buffers, and perhaps reduce the number of CA-2A plugin instances.

    Cheers...

I'll check those out and try to clean things up a bit.  I use a Tascam US600 which has been discontinued and they haven't put any new drivers (and likely won't).    Where's the setting to up my buffers?

All in Sonar preferences, esp ASIO buffers (a button somewhere should link to you audio interface software). Up to you, but I would check the other advice first before you tweak them as the other advice changes your environment as you go along (hopefully for the better).

Generally it's best go have them low whilst recording and reasonably high when mixing. I hardly need to tweak mine at all really as it works all the time (system well optimized).

ok I will check into things and see what I can do.  I've never had this problem before.  Sonar has always run fine on my system with all plugins.   But since I started using the CA-2A for the first time when I bought it earlier this week, that's when I've started to have the problems.

I think the issue was the interface driver.  I didn't realize that though my US600 tascam unit is discontinued, there was one iteration of drivers newer than I had.    Seems to work a lot better now.   funny things, those computers :)
