The 80s Called (And It Wants Its Awesome Back)

Hey all,

Since I'm becoming a lot more active in the forums lately, I figured I'd post a few songs here as well.

So, my good friend (and terrifyingly great guitarist) Chris Brooks was chatting to me one day about doing a collaboration. "Something really 80s, totally cheesy, big polysynths, lots of solos." Sounded like a good idea to me! I do suspect I got a bit carried away with the cheesy thing, however, and took him a little too literally when I made the clip:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0BO0itqSG4

(Obviously very tongue in cheek.  )

All entirely done in SPlat, Addictive Drums 2. Chris was using a Kemper for his tone, I was using Pod Farm 2.0 for mine.

Anyway, hope you guys dig it.

Massive well played guitar...yeah, this is 80s all the way. Danny would probably dig this one a lot. No nits here. You kinda went for cheesy in the vid and I think you accomplished that, but it still has a great visual appeal to the music!

Nice playing!
Guitars sounded very good.

Cheers, guys! Much appreciated!

I still roll my eyes at the Mullet section - so dumb! HAHA!

If you do enjoy great guitar playing, make sure you have a look out for Chris Brooks though. He's more of a fusion player normally, and I have to tell you, playing a guest solo on his last album alongside Brett Garsed was pretty terrifying...!

Keep the Mullet, they're awesome! HAHA!

We haven't made it to the UK yet - there's been a few near misses but the money has always ended up being funneled to other things (we run our own label and I look after all of our video and audio production so we basically self-fund everything). We're doing an Australian tour in a month or so and gearing up for the USA and likely Asia again next year. With any luck, we can finally add some UK dates onto that as well. :)

Haha! Yeah man!

It must be a pain getting to the UK... I try to get to see a band called Karnivool when they make the trip over here, which is not that often...

I'd say, try to get in to the festival scene over here too... We love our festivals

Plays great, tastes great, love the video concept.

Although, at over five minutes long, perhaps it could be more brie . . .f   :)

We're guitar players... do you really think we have any self control with how long we solo for? That's just crazy talk!

@synkrotron yeah - we've been in talks with a few people in the past. Definitely how we'd want to do it, ideally.

I bet after all of that guitar effort, you guys felt pretty darn shredded.

Ah, this wasn't so bad. As cheesy as it was, we tried to keep it tasteful (as tasteful as an 80s shred song can be! HAHA!) so we didn't wear ourselves out too much.

On the other hand, THIS "gem" is - by design - tasteless ripping, written entirely for the silly bass solo gag in the middle:

LORD: Because We Can - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_pr_R40ZiU

I also do serious stuff too, honest!   But that was a lot of fun to do, both the clip and the song, and by the end of it, in both the recording where we just went all out to play quick, and in the clip where we were running around like idiots, we were definitely exhausted!

In all honesty, that was awesome. It kind of reminded me of Jeff Loomis' solo works or even Petrucci's stuff. Really awesome playing, everything sounded nice. The cheese platters were the proverbial cherry on top. The video was awesome, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great job Lord Tim.

Wow, quite the compliment being compared to Jeff's stuff! We did some shows with Nevermore when they toured down here a couple of times and Jeff and Chris were just jaw droppingly good. Really good people too. :)

I can't believe you did shows with them, that's crazy. I see you didn't mention Warrel, was that on purpose? :P.

I'm a classical guitarist but I hope to dedicate some time to the craft of metal guitar. This video definitely inspired me to take another step in that direction.

Oh, no no - all of the guys, including Warrell, were great. I was just mentioning guitarists before. :)

I have pretty good memories of the first time they came down here for a little club tour in 2000 (or thereabouts). It was one of our first supports with an international band aside from Yngwie Malmsteen (now THERE'S an... interesting guy. *cough*). They wander into the bar and go "Hi, we're from America. Can you give us beer?" We knew right away the show was gonna be awesome! HAHA!
