Best way to set up a VST for monitoring that does not export with the mix?

Hi all

I am currently trialing the Sonarworks 3.1 Headphone Reference VST, which is meant to "correct" the sound from my KRK KNS8400 headphones

I have just started playing with it and it is looking promising

However, it got me thinking to how best to fully incorporate this into my set-up

I currently have it as the last thing on my MASTER bus, so it will affect any exported files - but I just know I am going to forget to turn it off before an important export!

What is my best option for ensuring that I can leave it on all the time in SONAR but not let it affect my exported mixes?

I have been thinking about setting up a monitoring bus using a send from my MASTER bus but then I would end up hearing both busses?

The other option I thought of was to use an "extra" MASTER bus ( eg MASTER BUS --> MASTER MONITOR --> MAIN OUTS) and then save some export presets to export from just the MASTER BUS (rather than "entire mix" option)

I tend to only ever export using 2 presets I have previously set up (CD Quality WAV and MP3)

Would this work?

Does anyone have any more elegant solutions / ideas?

Thanks

YOu should have put your audio interface in your signature or the post as it's hard to guess what routing options you might have.
But if your interface has more than 2 outputs then you can use the 3/4 output and so on.

I think the most straightforward solution would be to just put a "Monitor" bus in between the Master and the physical Main Outs that has Sonarworks on it, and choose Master bus as the source when you export, picking off the signal before it hits the FX on the Monitor bus.

I thought my specs were in my sig (I can't see anyone's on my iPad)

Anyway, I have an Maudio Fast Track Ultra but I monitor via a VRM box connected to the s/dif on the Fast Track Ultra

However, even routing to different outputs has the same dilemma no? - ie where would I place the Sonarworks VST, as the "output" busses do not have fx bins, to ensure my monitoring includes the VST but my exporting doesn't

I'm thinking Brundlefly has your answer.

Yeah - it does seem that option is the most straight forward and "fire & forget" method if I get my export presets setup correctly

Thanks guys

I like that... I was just using it at the end of the chain and turning it off to master but this is way better.  Thanks!
