Fab-Filter plug-in properties bug?
Hello, just installed Platinum after using X2 for last few years and everything is pretty great so far (still have to re-organize all my plug-ins, blah, but that's outside the scope of this post). Issue is this: when trying to adjust the plug-in properties for my Fab-Filter stuff both the Properties window and Sonar Platinum enter the 'Not Responding' error mode for about 15 seconds...this doesn't result in a crash, but it's always alarming to see Sonar go 'Not Responding' while working on a project. Anyone else have this? If not I might just do a full re-install of Windows and everything because it's been awhile and my DAW is due.

I guess this might not be an issue for very many users...I tend to use more instances than is allowed unless I specify in the properties panel - F-F Saturn gets a lot of use...

Hey Jonboper, I was searching up this issue myself when I came across your post. The issues I have is that Fabfilter plug ins are causing some sort of audio dropout of audio in sessions I have. Initially I thought I had a hardware driver problem but it only causes the problem in Sonar (Platinum) - not Albeton, Pro Tools or Cubase ( I have trialed a bunch of other SW to try to work out if it's a problem with my HW) My system is a HP Z420 with 24 Gigs RAM - It's modern/fast and dedicated to Music only. I am running Sonar Platinum 21.8 release Ipswich HW tried - Avid HD Native, Avid Eleven Rack, M-Audio C400, Presonus Firebox steps to reproduce- 1) start with a session that is playing fine - the one I have is about 15 tracks, 4 Audio the rest instruments ( Native Instruments, AAS CHromophone, Air instruments Velvet, Z3ta )
- 2) add a Fabfilter Micro (single filter) V 1.13 VST2 version
result- a) when you add the plug in, the CPU meters ( which have been hovering at about 5-10%) jump to the red briefly as the plug in is added.
- b) there are now regular dropouts of audio every 5 seconds or so
- c) removing the plug in does NOT stop the problem - you need to quick Sonar & restart to recover your project
- d) happens on all HW tried (PCIe card, USB 2, Firewire)
- e) DPC Latency checker shows no problem - there aren't other drivers conflicting with the HW
- f) the CPU meters of Sonar only randomly show spikes - most of the time they look like there is no problem but will randomly spike during playback and when you stop/rewind.
- g) on some occasions playback stops complete with the "audio dropout" dialogue

Hmm...I've had issues trying to rename FabFilter VST3 plugins (don't like multiple "FabFilt-" instances in my FX bin so I tried renaming them to Pro-Q2, Pro-C, etc.) and a few others were able to replicate that issue, but I haven't run into any functionality/dropout problems. I'm not using Saturn or Micro though. I use Pro-C2, Pro-Q2, Pro-MB and Pro-L and aside from not being able to rename them, I haven't had any problems.

Perform a VST reset: https://www.cakewalk.com/...ommended-for-UpgradersUpdate your audio interface firmware and drivers, run windows update and temp disable your virus scanner. I assume you are on X2A.

Thanks Dok Avalanche, but no - I think the three of us are all using Platinum - so the VST reset won't help us. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm not getting the response you describe. Can you please list the exact starting point and keystroke sequence you're using. We'll need to duplicate the behavior first. It would be helpful if you list some system specs also - motherboard/bios version. chipset, OS, etc.

As others are not experiencing it the first thing I would try is the VST reset as I have already suggested. Rule it out first.

Listen to the herr Doktor. Reset and rescan is step number 1 in all things related to VST problems. No sense proceeding until that is off your to do list.
