How to controll the transports in Sonar (Arturia Keylab 88, MMC)
Hi Guys and Galls, I have an Arturia Keylab88 and Sonar platinum. On the Keylab,
are all kind of control buttons amongs the transport buttons (rewind, fast forward, stop, play/pause, record and loop). I would like to have these working in sonar. For this I use Edit > Preferences >Midi > control Surfaces. Then I choose Act midi controller. I can also choose Cakewalk Generic surfaces; I’m not shure which one to choose. Then I go to ACT midi controller and set up the links. This only works so, so; - There are no commands for rewind and fast forward or Loop - Only the first 8 tracks are selected ((WAI Display) - When I load the project again I have to set it up again. So this should work better but how What I want is for Sonar to receive MMC commands. It can send MMC commands ( edit > preferences > project >midi, transmit MMC) but where can I turn a switch so it receives MMC? Any help?

I dont see any MMC under Option > control Surface (sonar producer 8.5) or Edit > preferences > MIdi >controlSurfaces (Sonar Platinum)

You can choose between: 1) Configure transport keys to send CC (not MMC). You can use ACT MIDI then. 8 encoders, 8 faders, 9 buttons (one is shift). Apart from fixed number of controls, it has some advantages over Generic surface. 2) Use Generic surface. You can leave transport keys as MMC (but I still recommend CC). You can use more hardware controls, but it is more one to one configuration (no banks for example) and it can not control buses 3) Use a combination of both. That has side effects, but you get the best from both. Read chapters 20 and 40 in Sonar reference guide and/or "ACT MIDI explained" on my site (see my signature) for detailed explanation what these 2 plug-ins can and can not do. 4) Use my plug-in in case you want your controller does what you want and as you want. But be prepared to spend days (if not week) till you are satisfied (too many possibilities trigger many ideas). Basic setup (see "Startup preset" in tutorials) you can get working within minutes. I can write long explanation if you want, but in short you do not really want MMC. Reconfigure transport buttons to send some unused CC. ACT MIDI does not like other MIDI commands.

Thank You Azslow3 for your detailed response. Ill read up on the info you've provided and keep a post here about my progress. I't a shame that something so simple that should work instantly, still becomes a very technical story. F.

If you mean controlling transport functions by MMC, it will take like 5 minutes to configure with Generic Surface. So it is close to instant. For the rest it was assumed that controller producers provide out of the box solutions. And they normally do... except for Sonar. There was (partially still available) Sonar aware devices (from Roland, Novation, Nektar, Mackie, Frontier and Presonus). So I think Sonar support questions should target hardware producers, in your case Arturia.

Thanks to azslows Script it is possibel to integrate the Keylab (i use the 25 Key Version without any other Arturia Stuff...why i mention that: Later) fully into Sonar Platinum: Transport works (only Loop dosn´t) Faders (8 + Master) are working without the hassle of Fader Jumps or searching the "Pick-up Position" Same for the Knobs (1 to 4 and 6 to 9 in mmy case, Knob 5 and 10 are used for moving WAI Position in my config) Based on the Start-Up Preset in azslow´s script i have set up 8 Channels with 1 Fader, 1 Knob and 1 Button for each channel. For Act i have set up 2 Banks so you have 48 Parameters per Synth/FX to control via Act (schould be enoug for most uses i guess... 8 Faders, Knobs and buttons per Bank. You can Set up more Banks if you need more). Kan´t say anything for the Pads on the 49-, 61- and 88 Key version. As i didn´t use any Arturia VSTs i set the knobs to "relative" and that way i get the ability to fine tune the acceleration of the knobs via the script. But it works as well when the Kobs are set to "Absolute" on the Keylab (without the ability to finecontrol acceleration). Setup is really Simple: -Download azslows script from his site and install it. -Set up AZControler in the Controller Section, your Keylab as input and output - in the "Presets" section on his site you find, as last Post in this Categrory, a quick guide for Setting up the Start Up Preset. Follow this Guide for Basic Setup (Number of Buttons, Faders, Knobs, ACT Banks) and Save your config. After you´ve finished this process swith to the "Logic" Tab in the Controller editor Window -Move a Fader/Knob. You should now see the CC and sone other Information in the Middle of the Editor Screen (Action List) - Click on the third Entry so that it get highlighted. Below the Action List Window you kan now edit the behavoir of the Fader/Knob. Here is how i´ve set up mine: Faders (the Drop-Downs under "Action Configuration"): Value (1st Drop Down), Instand (2nd Drop-Down), Linear (3rd Drop Down). This works as well for the Knobs when they are in Absolute Mode on the Keylab) If you prefer relative movement including finecontrol of the acceleration than you have to set the Drop Downs for the knobs as follows: 1st: Value 2nd: Endless 3rd: Here you can set the percentage of the Parametermovement per Tick. Tweek it to your liking. Again: When the Knobs are set to Relative on the Keylab you can use Endless Knobs in Sonar but you loose the abiltiy to control Arturia Stuff directly via the Keylab. If you use Endless Mode Tick the "Reverse" Checkbox, otherwise the Knobs work the opposite way as they should. It took me about 30 minutes after i figured how the script works to set everything up... well spend 30 Minutes i would say.. ;-)
