IPad ...inputting stereo line audio from Sonar DAW

I'm using Sonar X1 right now along with Akai EIE /Windows 7

After a session in my upstairs studio I like to record the piece so far onto mini disc then I can play it on my downstairs audio for assessment /ideas etc.
But it would be better to record onto my iPad ..nothing super quality , just the basic stereo mix onto the iPad.

But after trawling the web for a day or two I cannot find an easy definitive way of getting stereo line input into the iPad ...I know there's the Camera input gizmo ..but what then ?

in order to input more than 1 channel at a time to the iPad, you'll need an external soundcard capable of being connected to the iPad, such as the Presonus Audiobox iTwo
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AudioBoxiTwo
or the Roland Duo-Capture EX
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DuoCaptureEX

there are others, do a search at sweetwater, Musicians Friend, etc

you WILL still need the Camera adapter with whichever iPad connector you currently have (i.e. the lightening connector for iPad 4 or above and the 30pin connector for below)

i7, 16G DDR3, Win10x64, MOTU Ultralite Hybrid MK3
Yamaha MOXF6, Hammond XK3c, other stuff.

Hi David...

Well the reason I guess is that I won't connect my audio PC to the web...I personally think most PC problems originate from the web.
So after a 2 -3 hour session I don't want to have to bounce to one track or export to create a file to send it somewhere...it's just that bit too time consuming.....I just switch on the mini disc and record the sequence live (like in the good old days! ) ..eject the disc and then after some sustenance and light refreshment I listen to my results so far, downstairs, in a different environment thru a normal house audio system...
But I would like to try the iPad in place of mini discs.

If you want to record direct to an iPad the ios version of garageband can handle the job, though you will need an iOS compatible interface and the "camera connection kit" which is basically a lightning to USB adaptor cable. I've recorded into Cubasis on an iPad Air using my RME interface and it works fine.

Another way to do the job would be if you have a computer that's connected to the internet. Just put iTunes on that then add bounced audio from Sonar to the iTunes library (use a USB stick or CD as the transfer medium if you don't have the DAW on a LAN) then sync it into the iPad.

Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre.
Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

Yes. With RME's iOS version of Totalmix controlling the interface itself. It has to be said though that RME's interfaces are much more flexible than most of their competition's. The UFX can even be used as a stand-alone recorder or a live mixer.

Basically you need to track down an interface the manufacturer states works with iOS. As I understand it, iOS implements much of OS X's core audio functions so an interface which will work in OS X without a third party driver is likely to also work in iOS. Core Audio itself can also give quite decent latency performance without the need for things like manufacturer-supplied ASIO drivers.

To be honest, unless you have a requirement to use an iPad as a full DAW, using itunes to transfer stuff on and off an iPad has the advantage of being much simpler and far cheaper unless you have the hardware already, in which case itunes is merely more convenient.
