I am working on a remake of a 60s song that I was thinking of adding a crackle and pop to.

There's a Click Generator FX Chain in SONAR. However it doesn't process a track, it's a signal generator so you need to mix it in with a track. FX Chains > Anderton Collection > DJ > Click Generator. It doesn't generate hiss, only clicks an pops.

There's also a warped record simulator in the DJ folder where you can choose whether the warp is for a 33-1/3 or 45 RPM record, and the amount of warp.

Those work pretty well. The Warped Record brings me back lol

Thanks!

Win 10 (64 bit), i7-2600k 3.4GHz , 8 GB RAM, SATA III (500GB SSD - System, 2TB WD Black - Data), Sonar Platinum x64, m-audio Profire 610

Wow very cool tools Craig.. I find it so curious that I spent most of my life trying to squeeze every once of high quality fidelity out of my recordings with tape back in the old dayz, to Tascam DA-88's and every generation of Pro Tools and Cakewalk since Pro Audio 9 to SONAR Platinum, which is undoubtedly my favorite (actually since SONAR 4 Producer), most comfortable, and easiest way to do achieve clarity.

What's curious is, some where along the line, we all seem to take the turn to set out to go out of or way to make the most pristine recordings as possible, and than throw it in reverse go out of or ways to find new ways to "Screw them UP"!
And I for one would like the thank Craig and the bakers at Cakewalk for providing some many tools and different ways to do all of the above all out of the same box. :o)

OK that being said, there are of course some very cool tools outside of the SONAR box as well, and one of my favorites is Shattered Glass Audio's Code Red Free which is, as the name implies, a free VST3 tube preamp emulator plugin.
It certainly warrants attention and absolutely qualifies for donation, but that's left completely up to the user.

Thanks!

I was hoping I could calibrate "Warp Amount" in a more meaningful way, from something like "hole was created slightly-off center at pressing plant" to "left in car with windows up in the middle of July for several hours." Alas, the limitations of FX chains forced me to restrict myself to "Warp Amount." I gotta say, I'm proud of the "warped" look of the switch and control.

If you want something commercially available that's very cool, check out Studiolinked's Record Player ($39.95) I like it a lot, and it does other lo-fi effects. All the knobs can be automated.

You could play and record the mix into a cheap stereo cassette machine through the worst microphone you have, or into a mini cassette voice recorder. Try working completely outside the box until the very end. What fun!
I'd just try different things and have fun. Imagine you are in the 1950s without computer technology and are on a low budget. This sounds like a potential blast. Limit yourself to the worst mic you have and go analog, then back to digital when you're done. ...or you could use a plugin.
