Just rolled back to Gloucester
I finally got tired of waiting and waiting for my project to open in the "H" version, even with the new startup menu disabled, that I rolled back to Gloucester. Now my project opens 20 to 25 seconds faster. In the future, I won't be so quick to update until I read the tea leaves here in the forum. I wonder if anyone else has had this experience. As CW has always been stable and efficient for me for the last 17 years, this is a bit of a disappointment. Fortunately, nothing was added in "H" that I was jonesing for, so it didn't really hamper me. I hope the bakers get this sorted out by the next revision.

Thanks for the info. I have not been able to download "h" it has not showed up in my command center and I can't find the download anywhere. With what you said I may be lucky, I'll just wait. Thanks again, great tunes by the way. Really liked Must Be In Love. Rivers in the Sky very moving, good job. Thanks, JD Carroll

Did this happen once, or consistently with every project you tried to open? There's usually a re-scan of plug-ins that happens after the initial install that delays matters. Also, I'm finding that delayed openings after a recent Windows start are not limited to SONAR. I opened Studio One to do album assembly shortly after starting Windows, and it took seemingly forever, which is not the norm. Even Open Office takes forever to find a doc if I don't wait for a while for Windows to do its thing. These days I boot Windows and do something useful for a few minutes, like wash some dishes or whatever, then come back and open programs.

@JD-Thanks for the kind words. I found the upgrade only by clicking on the settings control in CCC. @Anderton-Craig this has been consistent with the 3 projects that I've worked on since being on "H". Those 3 projects now open 20 seconds, or so, earlier. I always do a rescan after any update.

I must be very lucky on Windows 10. Things just work as one would expect except faster. I do see a small delay with Sonar loading a project but this was happening in the G update too.

Thanks, John. I'm not on W10, nor do I plan on upgrading to W10 for a while. I feel this has nothing to do with my problem, as things are acting normal again since rolling back.

Twenty to twenty five seconds is a lifetime at my age. I would welcome the opportunity to scratch my ball sack or pull an annoying booger out of my nose that such a vacation would provide.

Still on Gloucester. If there is actually a delay with the menu disabled I am guessing that Sonar still polls the internet with it's inefficient code (does not run in it's own process) for some reason.. Regardless.

When I want to make music, I do it in Everett Update 1. Foxboro and Gloucester introduced a couple of new issues, one of which, at least, is still present in Hopkinton. Still find the new Start Screen unhelpful/annoying.

It introduced a couple of issues that slowed my workflow (e.g. An initial shift-select on tracks in TV fails to heighlight the tracks, the Zoom tool magnifying glass icon still present after Z-dragging). The Win 10 compatibility, new project templates and fixes Gloucester offered were irrelevant to me. So there's no reason for me to have it installed.

You do understand that each new version is a roll up of all previous versions, so if you finally take up an update at the Letter I then you will get all the Gloucester and Hopkinton code as well. Hope you've put in bug reports about the issues you are having.

I like the new start screen--not that it matters really. However, I have noticed some very odd things since the H update. One of my projects failed to load at all--crash dump. I narrowed it down to an instance of Izotope Nectar. I actually have multiple instances of Nectar running, but it looks like just one instance on one track is causing the crash--the others loaded just fine. Then last night EZDrummer started acting weird in a completely new project. Crash dump in the middle of putting together a song. I started digging in and noticed that my Saffire Pro 40 was set to 44.1 in preferences, but the hardware was set to 48 (which is my normal setting). It's always a problem when there is a mismatch in sample rates so I corrected it in preferences and EZDrummer worked for hours. Also noticed that "run as administrator" had been unticked on the Sonar shortcut. I haven't tested the Nectar project yet--I needed sleep! The question is how did these things change? It's run for months without changing and as soon as I installed the H update it changed. As much as I hate to say it, if you're having problems with the H update you might want to go through preferences and settings with a fine tooth comb. It sucks having to do maintenance when you just want to sit down and write or play. For me, nothing kills creativity more than switching into IT guy mode. (I'm a sysadmin by day).

The Shift-select issue was fixed in Hopkinton and the Z-drag issue has already been reported by Keni. If the next release comes with a feature or bug fix that outperforms the inconveniences of Start Screen, I'll update. Otherwise, I'll just stay with Everett Update 1. I like the old Quick Start dialog.

In my case ( to have to roll back) it´s I guess my fault , cause of slowness in working on songs - still there are some parallel running 32 bit projects and sonar versions in my box- that´s the next step I have to go- to get rid of the 32 bit stuff......

I didn't install "H" because of the feedback here, so the reading the tea leaves is a wise choice. Going forward I am also on the fence now because of the massive size of the "start menu." 87MB is a massive addition for the functionality presented. This still makes little sense to me.
ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

I feel for anyone having these issues since H is working well here... And I actually like the new Start Screen, though I'm still not quite used to waiting the extra seconds for it to re-open between projects - it consistently opens for me in about two seconds with an active internet connection.

I just upgraded to the "I" version without waiting to read the tea leaves first because it's so easy to roll back. Now, with the new start menu enabled, my newest project still opens a bit slower than without the start menu, but it's faster than before and acceptable for my needs. I don't know if I'm hallucinating or not, but I'll keep my eye on this, and if anything changes, I'll report back. Thanks, CW.
