TEControl breath controller

Hi all.

I recently acquired the TEC. I left configuration at CC2 and other factory defaults in place, and configured the track in SONAR 8.53 that I recorded to also to CC2. I recorded the music to the MIDI track from an M-audio Axiom61 controller and used the TEc at the same time to enter CC2 data on the same track. I saw the CC2 curve forming, but at playback I didn't hear the variations I sent via the TEc. I mention that configuring the TEc software as well as the SONAR treck to CC11  works. Sample players were Vienna Ensemble and EWQL Play. Instruments were Vienna Special Edition English Horn and EWQL Platinum+ English Horn as well.

      1. What could be the problem?
      2. Is the effect of CC11 comparable with or equivalent to the effect of CC2?
All input welcome and thank you. S.

The effect of different controllers depends on the programming of the specific synth. Some synths might respond the same to CC2 as to CC11, just changing volume. Others might respond to CC2 by changing timbre or other sound parameters as well as volume, and some might not respond to CC2 at all. Check the the MIDI Implementation chart of the synth.

If you heard the effect of CC2 while recording, you should hear it on playback as well. but if you didn't hear it while recording, the particular instrument/patch you're using probably just doesn't respond to CC2.

Also some softsynths have either MIDI learn and/or MIDI assigns.  You must assign CC2 to those synths.  If your softsynth does not respond to CC2 then you either have to change your breath controller to CC11 or record your CC2 data then in process/find/change change all of that track's CC2 data to CC11 or CC7.  I use the find/change when this happens to me and I always change to CC1.

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.
