A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Windows 10
My E drive disappeared. A poster in the MC forum was looking for a way to get his serial number for MC 2003 since he lost the sleeve it was attached to. A few years back, someone else asked the same question and I discovered a way to find it on the disk. I still have my MC 2003 disk so I popped it into my recently-upgraded computer to see if I could remember how I did it , and... nothing. No auto-run, no pop-ups, zilch. So, I tried to open Windows Explorer to see if I could run it from there. Well, there is no Windows Explorer now; there's a 'File Explorer'. Looking in 'This Computer', there is no E drive listed. I still have G, H, I, and J, but no E. Being an idiot about such things, and maybe a little insane, I tried to play an audio CD, a DVD movie and a ROM DVD. Nothing. I even inserted a blank CD to see if I would get the 'what do you want to do with this CD' pop-up. Tried to burn a CD using WMP. It told me to add a drive and try again. Nothing. Has anyone else experienced this? And more importantly, who moved my E?

hi greg, I used to get that a lot in XP SP2 with 3 x 1tb drives and from memory went to disc management and hopefully there is an un-named partition or drive(probably j?) and renaming it may help. also, from memory, there were plenty of comments and workarounds on google last time I had the problem but only for XP. good luck tony

Considering how inexpensive enclosures and externals are these days, the whole partition thing is crazy. I find it strange to see folks attached to it, still ... like it is a different something ... it's the same unit, and if the components that work it fail, it will be lost. At least on the outside, you can have as many copies as you want ... and not worry about all the hassles of creating a partition ... only to lose it again later! Too weird for me!
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

I misremembered. You can't access the disk (at least I can't), but you can find the SN in the program once it's installed. But you need the SN to install it. Wow. A Mobius Trip.

Suppose that you want to back up a 4 TB drive that contains your current operating system and programs and 3.2 GB of data so that you can rapidly restore it to operation if it gets corrupted or infected. It is quicker and requires substantially less of that cheap external storage to put the system on a partition and make an image of that partition than to image the entire drive. And imaging is a very inefficient way to back up data compared to differential backups. btw. I am no relation to the Slarty in the other forum. Slartabartfast is an incredibly common name, and the diminutive, Slarty, equally common.

I think you missed the point of partitioning. It is for organising and optimsing rather than to avoid hardware failure. You would never back up one partition to another on the same drive.

Still no fix. I'm probably going to remove and reinstall it next. Thanks for the link, Mesh. Most of what was written is gibberish to me, though. The thing is just not there, except that I can see it and it opens and closes. It doesn't spin up at all. Oh. Also missing the F drive.

Never really thought so ... your posting and information here is so nicely done, and helpful. The other person, aside from some nice interviews, in general, is not an everyday poster . I think he doesn't want to get involved in the day in and day out stuff on the board, which is really annoying for the most part.
