Where are vst presets saved?
I've upgraded my computer with a new hard drive and would like to transfer my VST presets over to it. The VST in particular I'm speaking of is ValhallaRoom. If anyone knows, that would be awesome.

The answer to the subject is...it depends on the plug-in. WRT ValhallaRoom, user presets are stored in your user directory in "AppData\Roaming\Valhalla DSP, LLC\ValhallaRoom\User Presets"

Well, not quite. If he gave stock tips equal to his SONAR tips, I'd be a millionaire by now. But he really does know SONAR, and a whole lot of other things, backwards and forwards. Maybe up, down, and sideways, too.

Scook maybe you can rescue me again. Where would I find the user presets to VX-64 Vocal Strip?

JCody: You also have a preset import/export in SONAR plugin manager. The only catch here is, you would have had to save inside the plugin VST window. Meaning, the little menu in the plugin where it gives you a save option. If you did save there, opening plugin manager and selecting the plug will give you import/export options. You can export the entire array of presets or individual presets. You can then back them up, and re-import in the event of a disaster. I've done this a thousand times and it's never let me down. Again though....you had to save a preset inside the plugin for this way to work. If you don't understand what I'm saying on this, let me know and I'll share a few pictures. Heck...nevermind....lol....here's exactly it. I only have one preset in VX-64 that I need. When I open plugin manager, select the VX-64 from the list and hit export, this is what I get. Hope this helps you. :) -Danny

Or insert the plug-in into a project and (manually) save the presets either as individual .fxp files or as banks as .fxb files. Save them wherever you want to and then copy them to a new location.

LOL Beeps...is you be pontificating again? Hahahaha! I mentioned the "king amongst kings" thing to my girl, who has been nicknamed "Queenie" or "The Queen". She laughed and said to me "you're more like a jester" and threw a candy cane loaded with bells at me and said "now shake your lil stick....jingle jingle....and help me with the Christmas lights." LOL! You're welcome guys. This little feature has been around for as long as we've had plugin manager I believe. I've been saving my presets for years this way. I should probably borrow what KPerry offered as there are a few extra steps needed in the method I shared as well as some limitations. When I say limitations....you MUST import your presets using plugin manager with my method. There is no other way and you won't be able to import them using anything else but Sonar. Also, some plugins have their own additional "save" option built into the plug that allows you to save a preset that is just a preset for THAT plug. I never quite liked that and felt way more comfortable with the Sonar VST window option save. It was just more feasible for me and in a snap, you can re-import all your presets for that plugin in one shot or export them in that same manner. In my example I only have one save for that particular plug....but for say reverbs or Sonitus eq.....I may have 30 or more preset saves, so this really comes in handy. Whatever way works and allows you to back up and preserve your hard saved work is the one you should use. :) Glad this helped you guys out a bit. -Danny
