Hi guys...at it again...This time drop outs

Ok so some of you know I've been trying to deal with a latency issue that I'm just going to live with, and that's ok...but, in my fight with Mr. latency, I've been messing with everything and now I'm constantly having issues with this thing stopping...you know it just stops and says something about the audio engine, or something to that effect.. I've read the manual, did what it said, and it's still dropping out..
My question is...Is there a default switch so I can return all this stuff to it's original specs? Other than the latency issue this thing has always worked fine until this a**ho** singer came over and just had to have reverb. Before I started messing around, it's worked like a dream...now it sucks...all the time...please help
Thanks
Jason

Hi. It would depend on your Audio Interface. Do you have a dedicated ASIO driven Interface ? Do you gave asio4all installed? If so, do a complete uninstall, and install proper ASIO drivers.
    All the best.

Nobody can really give you any assistance in any level of detail, without you sharing information with us about your computer system, your audio interface hardware, audio interface driver versions, ASIO Buffer Size, etc., as well as what kinds of effects are loaded into the project having the issues.

If you look in the signature area of my post, and of the post from the other forum member above this one, you will see that we have added info about our systems to our forum signatures.  This greatly helps others to understand our setups and makes it much easier for them to help us resolve any issues we may post threads for.

So, I would urge you to look at the kinds of things we have included in our signatures, and modify your forum signature to display similar info about your system, making sure to also check the box that tells the forum software to always add your signature information to any posts you submit to the forum, and then we will see it and be better able to help you.

    So, please indicate:

) what you are using for an audio interface
) driver version for your audio interface
) Driver Mode used in Sonar (check in Edit>Preferences>Audio>Playback and Recording)
) Sonar's ASIO Reported Latency values (Edit>Preferences>Audio>Driver Settings)
) Sampling Rate in Sonar (Edit>Preferences>Audio>Driver Settings)

Let's start with the above and go from there :)

It sounds like your lowering your buffers to eliminate round trip latency and your system and audio interface  drivers are not up to it. Set your buffers back to a safe level where the drop outs stop.

Lots of singers expect reverb while tracking. My solution is a small mixer I use for the headphones. I can also use a second feed from my Joe Meek pre amp from the vocal mike so I have real good control over what they hear without it interfering with my vocal feed to Sonar.

In a pinch I once used the latency to my advantage.
If you are tracking a vocal try this trick.
Use a reverb send or use the tracks bin to add a reverb VST to the track,  turn on input echo... but turn the tracks gain or volume way down. If you understand pre and post you'll get what you want. This is the trick.

If your interface is set for direct monitoring then they will hear their vocals dry directly and the tracks output with lots or reverb will return to the interface at a lower level along with the music but with a slight delay due to RTL . The trick is set the track level just so and it will work for most of the punters out there.  They will think the delay is part of that reverb sound.

Thank guys. I'll add my info to my signature for future reference.
Just a quick q while that profile signature is resetting.
Is there a restore to default settings button in Sonar X2 professional anywhere?
    Thanks

I see you have a Scarlett like me, a good safe setting is 10 which you set in Mix Control, not Sonar. No there is no reset for Sonar and even if you re installed it it remembers setting from the past. So just set the Scarlett mix control latency to 10 and you will be fine.

No there is no reset for Sonar and even if you re installed it it remembers setting from the past.

A clean reinstall (here are the instructions for X3, the instructions for X2 would be the same except where these instructions refer to X3 replace with X2) has no point of reference unless there is a prior version installed in which case the installer will prompt to use previous settings. A no to the prompt will cause SONAR to install with defaults as much as possible. There are a few shared variables such as the path to Cakewalk Content stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software which are shared by all Cakewalk products. If one wants a completely fresh start then this is the method https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013372/Clean-Install-All-Cakewalk-Software

Instead of reinstalling, a full re-personalization will overwrite the contents of the user directory with the original files, including the ini files and reset some of the values in the registry. To preform it hold the CTRL+SHIFT while starting SONAR.

    Thanks guys,
Cactus - I'll start with the Scarlette buffer and see what happens. I didn't notice 'till now the "settings" button at the bottom right on the mix control...Thanks
Scook - I don't really want to go through an elaborate re-install if I don't have to...but thanks...I'll keep that info handy...If I decide to...you may hear from me again lol
