How do I move Sonar (current) to my new computer without downloading everything again?

I have Sonar Platinum with that new command center thing and a TON of instruments and sample libraries etc.

Its like ~20 GB or so in total.  I'd absolutely hate to have to download it all again, just to get it onto my new computer system...

Is there any method or function to facilitate that?

Any advice is much appreciated  :)

It's not only to copy the libraries.
You have to install Dynamic Link Librairies (dll-files) to the windows system.
Entries must be written in the Windows registry.
dll-files must be registered in the System (regsvr32.exe & regsvr64.exe)
Many programs will otherwise no longer work then.
I always advise to a clean installation.

    Hi
Re-Ghost your whole drive If you have Norton Ghost.

There is  also Is a free program called Aomei backupper.(google it )
This will Back up Windows and everything on your drive
You have to make a boot disc which is In Instructions.
Once you have saved to a Back up to whatever program you use, restart your new computer with boot disc In ,press f12 or whatever boots the disc up and press any key after prompt. You only get about 5 seconds to do it,so just keep tapping the keys. and that will take you to a screen and prompts you to load the backup.Once that has been achieved everything should be hunkydory!!! It takes up to three hours If you have a load of stuff .have to be patient with It.

    All the best

Ditto, you can do the ghost method and cross your fingers, but nothing beats a clean installation.
Check your CCC downloads folder for the Cakewalk updates, you could just port it across then run CCC, that may help avoiding a download. Remember you only need the latest updates.

can you just remove the HD from the old one and pop it in the new pc? (assuming a desktop) i've done that successfully a couple of times over the years... you'll have to install new drivers for the mobo bits, and you may have to re-authorise some plugins
    good luck!

If you decide to do this backup first.
It can really screw things up that way if you don't remove your drivers first (esp of note hard drives can BSOD on boot Windows if your PC is connecting via a different mode). Acronis will do this automatically. Still recommend a clean build if you are concerned about stability and performance.

while a clean build is definitely the best way to go, i never had any trouble as i described, in fact i haven't seen a bsod for maybe 10 years now, and i'm a crazy guy who uses asio4all

I agree with the clean install method. Just suck it up and put aside a day or so to bring your new computer up to scratch with all the downloads you will have to do. You may, however, be able to copy some of the install files from the CCC downloads folder, and this will bring the download load down (see what I did there). I don't know how well this would work, maybe some else (maybe a baker) would know if this method is viable.

Yes, install C3 and copy the files to the download area. When installing SONAR, C3 will detect the files in the download cache, verify they are good and use them instead of downloading them again from the Cakewalk servers.

You can also clone your drive to a new drive to use in the new PC.

That being said...I SAVE EVERY DOWNLOAD FROM EVERY SOURCE.

That way, if I do have to re-install, I just go to my storage drive and find
    the installer..

The chip set and drivers from the original motherboard are almost certainly not the same as the new motherboard, so I do not believe you would have good luck ghosting the primary drive (C:).

If you have sample libraries and projects on a different drive than the C:. then those should be able to be just copied over, or just take that drive and move it to the new system, then fix the paths for any programs that will be pointing to any locations on the new drive.

    Thanks for the many answers...

I did find, in the meantime, that Cakewalk Command Center does not delete the archives it downloads after the installation.

Would I be able to freshly install Cakewalk Command Center to the new computer, point it to the folder with the existing downloads and have it install from there?

note: I'm not finished building the new system, otherwise I would have simply tried it already, but as it is, I figured I'd ask here :)

Just copy the files from the old download folder to the new download folder. You only need to copy the latest files.

Then sync it up in CCC settings.

    Ta.

So, I was actually forced to try this move by now, cause my computer did not recognize my old SSD anymore, it seems dead as a door nail, won't work in a USB enclosure either...

    - So I bought another SSD, installed windows and then Cakewalk Command Center.

    - set the "download path" to the folder on my backup drive, where all the files are that Command Center had already downloaded - which is everything. There should have been no reason to download anything other than minor updates.

However, its begun to download every last thing I tried to have it install from scratch.

So, the whole thing really isn't working.  I suppose I could start each executable in that folder manually...?

Or will Command Center do its job after performing some other adjustment I don't know about?

    ---------------------------------
EDIT :  After trying again, CCC operates properly and sees installers in its download folder and uses them.
    ---------------------------------

I have also noticed that CCC will not see an installer already in its download folder and will download again.

This may be the safe way of doing things, but maybe an option could be added to use an existing installer.

This is the second time I've read this yet I have no problem installing from an already downloaded file in the CCCs download cache.
Perhaps try signing out of then back into the CCC.

This was probably the problem, at least in my case.

I just put a large number of my products on dvds and moved them from my floortop into the CCC's download folder on my laptop.  CCC saw every one of them and ran them without redownloading.

I just went to the sys back up, made a *system backup* (it was 100 gigs though) all my samples were on three separate drives unrelated to the system drive (c:).  Then rebooted, did a clean install.  Went to the back up area and there it asks if you want to restore a system backup..you just click yes.  All registry links worked fine.

btw on 10 there's a new option to do a windows 10 *reset* which is like a clean install.
