New Start Screen issue since Updating to Ipswich ***CLOSED***
Hello Ever since I updated Sonar Platinum to the Ipswich version the new start screen no longer works. It takes for ever to appear and when it does it displays this Failed to load URL with error (-101). [A connection was reset (corresponding to a TCP RST).] that is probably why it takes forever to appear because it's trying to find the above. It has otherwise worked fine up until I done the Ipswich update. I now have it turned off. Richard

I disabled my start screen because it appeared before you started a project then while the project was loading it would blink on and off and sometimes the project would load and sometimes not and if the project did load, the start screen would come back and have to be closed before you could play the project. After disabling the start screen there was no problem loading projects. I like the concept but I need it to just open when I want to open the last project I worked on when I first start SPLAT. The rest I can handle on my own!

Thank you for your info Sidroe, I never had those problems, it was just a little slow, not to bad, functioned correctly opening projects, never would pop up unannounced so to speak, but would pop up after closing a project I think, just a little slow as you could have selected your song project to load before it did. But now it just doesn't work as said above. Richard

I know this is a stupid question but has anybody tried the playlist with the start screen arunning? Does it pop up everytime a new song loads in the playlist? I haven't used playlist since it was broken. Has it been fixed?

There can be some (bad?) "trigger" which show startup screen. One more example: close startup screen, select "Open..." from menu, press "Cancel". Startup screen reappear. But I have completely disabled this features. It just takes (too long) time to load and I do not see any useful functionality from it.

Good point - I hadn't thought of that since we still go on stage with X3 ... But I just checked ... no, it does not (i.e. start screen does not pop-up); it works fine (and with the pin button returned in one of the updates) it seems to behave like X3 did; I think I should possibly try using Platinum on the live rig now (project load times seem better ... but that is just a feeling) ...

azslow3 ...and I do not see any useful functionality from it.
I seems to automatically remove those projects from the selection that are no longer there i.e. all those manual copies I save and later move to a sub directory are not displayed ... (unlike the cluttered File menu)

Looks like a network error message ... tried with and without network connection??? Mine works either way on 2 systems, one online, one offline ...

It may be an internet setup issue on your computer. The start screen gets some components remotely (news feeds, update alerts, etc.).
If you disconnect from the internet, how does the start screen respond for you?
ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

I shut down for tonight, I will check tomorrow, I check firewall rules etc first thing and it is all set good. Everything else accesses internet when needed, CCC other programs and plugins checking for updates etc, all no issue, start screen was fine up until Ipswich update. Richard

I never run an internet connection while running Sonar ever. I also make sure that the anti-virus is turned off whenever running Sonar. I have always done this for many years. So, I don't think the start screen issue in my case has anything to do with those.

I see a new update to Sonar Platinum, so I just give it a try and install, you never know, but the problem is still the same. I tried with turning off network and the start screen comes up fast and works but of course the things like the news etc are not there, but every thing else works. Richard

I never used the old start screen. The new one is working well enough that I haven't felt the need to dump it.. I wonder if having the program on an SSD is why it seems quick to me.

is quick without network active, and was quick before ipswich regardless of network, after ipswich it is slow and doesn't show anything when it does come up except Failed to load URL with error (-101). [A connection was reset (corresponding to a TCP RST).] Richard

If I take url from error message http://www.cakewalk.com/Start/SONAR (I don't know why the url did not turn up in the error posted above, I just copy and paste to word pad, grab that doc on laptop to post, anyway) and load it in browser on DAW machine it takes me to the start page in the browser, of course there is no contents like projects or anything but otherwise same as start screen but in browser. So DAW PC can connect to irl, just not from Sonar Platinum start screen it seems. Richard

Perhaps it's running afoul of a security suite acting like a firewall? I believe we have an exception for the windows firewall but that won't necessarily work with other 3rd party firewalls. Keith

The only thing other than Windows Firewall I can find is Windows defender, I turn it off, still no change, I add acception, no change. In Windows firewall it is set for start screen to allow both inbound and outbound, everything there looks good, I have no other virus or malware or any like that of any kind on my DAW PC. Still no good. Richard

Thank you for your reply, It go through on my other DAW PC same router, only difference is it still on Hopkinton and not Ipswich, so I thought I could rule that out. But I will take a look. *** and why it would change in the router from updating from Hopkinton to Ipswich ? Richard

Simple, Sonar may have changed the port number upon update, which may end up being a blocked port. I've got no idea if your PC's are on the same network or not BTW. Anyway it's worth ruling out, and you have, so onwards... Cheers..

Nope. The new Start Screen is running fine here on 2 systems (can't check the third yet), no SSD's and this is with internet on or off. Sure, it's not super fast to load, but it loads without error and without any project related problems.

Respond to "nope".... Charlyg isn't stating that the start screen has errors for him (he is not the OP), he is saying it is loading quick and you are saying it isn't "super fast to load" on HDD. IMHO the new start screen does slow Sonar down (does not seem to be coded efficiently), and if you have a SSD Sonar will certainly load faster than with a HDD. Of course people will have varying results depending on their system specs, number of projects, and perhaps their internet connection. However none of this is what the OP going on about...
