SOLVED sonar wants to load GM tones instead of instrument patches X3 Professional

What the heck am i doing wrong?     Simple answer -  Not Paying Attention

Some how my instrument definitions for my roland RD-700gx won't come up.
i have my output channel set to uses instrument : Roland RD-700GX:tones
and sonar keeps bring up roland rd700 GM...
I hit the define button  there all kinds of options   there.,.... banks you name it

Ive tried them all... no matter what it keeps coming up with general midi....

They used to work, this is what's so strange, but i have no clue what I actually did because it was ages ago.

Any suggestions?

You will need an instrument definition file for your Roland synth. You are probably selecting the default bank which is most likely GM.

I'm loading the .ins file right out of the cakewalk instrument directory.  specific to this instrument.
It shows each bank of instruments when I hit "define" - like pianos, strings, etc.  but I'm not comprehending how to load the whole instrument with all of the banks.  I see the instrument defs for my proteus 2000.

Should there not just be a header for the roland RD700 and all of it's instruments?
hopefully someone will chime in that has one.

Thanks for looking out though John!

You don't load the instr def file. It has to be setup.

Please read the section on this in the Sonar manual starting on page 1375. Once setup you should never have to do it again.
The below is from page 1379
     To import instrument definitions
    1. Go to Edit > Preferences > MIDI - Instruments.
    2. Click Define to display the Define Instruments and Names dialog box.
    3. Click Import to display the Import Instrument Definitions dialog box.
    4. Choose the file that contains instrument definitions for your manufacturer, and click Open. SONAR displays a
list of all the instrument definitions in the file.
    5. Choose one or more instruments from the list, and click OK.
    6. Click Close to close the Define Instruments and Names dialog box.
The instrument definitions you imported should now appear in the Uses Instrument list in the Assign
    Instruments dialog box.

John.  Well,  I was in a hurry and not paying attention...  I need to use my program more is the problem.
I have a UM2 and I was not drilling down to the UM-2 output which is out of sight,  but rather mistaking channel 2 for midi out 2.  I was not finding anything on google searches that I didn't already know and I thought something was out of whack and I needed to go way over into list of definitions at that point.

Nothing like panicking when you're in hurry.

Many thanks for your patience and help.
