Converting a couple of tracks to wav or MP3?
I recorded several tracks today and want to take two of them and create a file I can send through Dropbox. I don't want to use the whole project, it's just sort of a scratch track of someone else's song. I bounced to clips? Stereo, but I still can't figure out how to convert to a simple stereo MP3 or wav file to send. I tried to convert to MP3 and got some message that I needed something else, I think it said from earlier. I should have paid more attention but was aggravated. This should be easy and probably is. I should do more, then I wouldn't have spent an hour trying to record through input 3 on the Octa-Capture without the inputs and outputs enabled in preferences. At least I finally have time to get started... and MAN! I am ready! Will probably have a lot of stupid questions. Thanks.

Export the tracks to a folder (I have one on my desktop, "Audio Files") first.

Ok, thanks. I tried copy/pasting them into a new project. It the got out of sync when I did that. What do I do when I get them in the new folder? Sorry, I'm really ignorant but am trying to remedy it.

Solo the tracks and export using Source Category "Entire Mix"

Yeah... Scook got it... Just solo the wanted tracks or mute the unwanted and export the whole mix... Think of it as what you hear you get!

Thanks!! I'll give it a try. Do I have to choose a format for the export, my fried uses a different DAW (PT). I also wonder why the tracks went out of sync when I copied them to another project? Thanks for the help!

It is an export like any other. Select the format, sample rate and bit depth as you normally would. If you have one clip per track, you can use the new clip export option and create broadcast waves. Then test it by importing the two clips into a new project, the clips should import into separate tracks time aligned just like they are in the original.

Well, I think it worked. I would have liked to have been able to send a stereo file of both tracks but they went as separate tracks. I hope they will sync. Thanks again! Julien.

Well. That was the first thing I tried, a new project, but I copy pasted. Maybe that's why They didn't sync. I can't do things as normal because I haven't done anything, just finally getting started. Am happy but on phone so may be typing errors. I've hung out and read a long time but life had other plans for my time and energy... FINALLY!!

Gold Wave is what I use to mess with conversions. It is also an excellent little wave editor and recorder. It's free to try and only something like $50 for lifetime updates. https://www.goldwave.com/ Did you know you can drag and drop audio from a project. And to export 2 tracks as a stereo file simply just pan then hard left and right. Solo them and then export to WAVE. Then use Gold Wave to convert to MP3 and put in drop box. Make sure the MP3 format is set to preserve stereo image. Gold wave has all the different mp3 formats to choose from..I'd use 320. If your project has a tempo then let your freind know what it is. OR If there is any midi at all you can easily "save as" a MID. file and all the midi tracks will be saved together with the tempo. Midi files are super small. Your friend can open the MIDI file in PT then drop the audio tracks in and all should sync up pretty good. I've done this with a freind who uses Garage Band.

mps3 have a slight offset with them, so can vary slightly even if created from a broadcast wav. mp3 is a good format for sharing if the wav material is already available at each DAW being used. In your situation, using a single percussive hit on a blank section at both beginning/end of the song gives a "quick and dirty" alignment guide for both of you (mate the first and check that the second matches). Then you just lop both ends off after mixing is done. I typically will bounce the desired tracks to a new track first, then convert that to an mp3 externally just to verify each step.

That's a good point about MP3 timing, I actually leave everything as WAV. and have been lucky that my collaborators live in the same town so I hand deliver. I've used the transient spike trick a few times. It works.
