Line 6 Variax 500

I just traded a couple old amps for a Variax 500. Seems pretty cool to have in the home studio.....
I don't believe it is the stock neck, Line 6 logo notwithstanding. No s/n and the neck is natural mahogany. I do have Pod Farm, but that works with any guitar.

Anyone familiar with these things?

I've got one. Use it occasionally. Connects to my XT Live which I then record direct. There is a Variax Workbench program that let's let's you do a lot of cool stuff like open tunings etc. Maybe I should pull it out and play around again.
I like the  guitar models, but dislike the stock neck.

I ordered Variax Workbench and it should get here by Friday. My guitar bud and I ran through a whole slew of stuff in Pod Farm. I finally understand. The variax sims the guitar types, and the Pod Farm sims the rest. He was having a blast playing all the tones! I want to set the A/B for Firebird and Firebird slide. See if we can dredge some some JW!

With workbench, I want to build Big Red(Alvin Lee), but with a P90 where the Strat pickup is mounted........

I have the I/O box and cable, but it looks like I have to use the old clunky looking workbench instead of HD. I am looking for some instruction, hopefully a video. If you know of one, lemme know.....

    Thanks.

Well, I pretty much got it figured out and it's pretty cool. Lotsa "crap"( Db tuning) to offload from the guitar and I found a library of pretty good tones online. The R-billy position will NOT be rockabilly. That slot is for Rev Billy! how bout 5 Billy tones?

I have the newer one, the JTV (built by James Tyler) but it is basicly the same.
Love it, its a perfect match in the home studio. Going from a Tele to a Strat to a banjo in seconds - perfect :)

I have a Variax 300 and the Variax to USB convertor box to use with Workbench.  Workbench can be downloaded from the website for free.  When the jtv first came out Line6 included the convertor box but it may be a separate accessory now.  Regardless you'll need either the convertor box or a Line6 pedalboard or rackmount that have the Variax connector and a usb computer connection to use Workbench.

Workbench adds tremendous value to Variax guitars.  To me the most difficult thing about using a modeling guitar is adjusting your playing to match the selected instrument.  Just as in real life you play an acoustic differently than an electric, different than a banjo and so on.

Yup, got workbench and almost done replacing all of the alt tuning stuff that was on it with my classic rock heroes and guitars and I'm ready to rock!

Dual minis in a 335 anyone?
