Question on some old gear given to me. GTP4 and GNX4.

I used to own both a long time ago, but had been keeping up with recent upgrades. My question is am I able to use the hands free from the GNX4 with GTP4, I know I could with Sonar products, but like I said it's been a long time. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have a spare laptop, but do not want to go through the process if hands free isn't an option, thanks!

This is the wrong forum to post questions about using hardware with Sonar.  This forum is for discussing the forum software itself and the set up of the forum structure.

To post questions like yours, post it in the HARDWARE forum for questions about how to use this hardware direct without Sonar, or if it is a Sonar question on how to use this hardware WITH Sonar, then post it in the Sonar forum.

I am not sure what GTP4 is?

There are posts on both the GNX4 and GNX3000 here, but not sure what the "hands free" refers to specifically. Can you clarify this?

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

It's an old Cakewalk product, Guitar Tracks Pro 4. The hands free refers to using the GNX4 as a control surface, you can use the foot switches as transport controls. The GNX4 came with Pro Tracks Plus back in the day, and this was built in. I'm just not sure if it is possible with the Pro 4. I'm trying to set up something a little simpler for my son, and before I installed on his laptop, I was wondering if this was possible. With Sonar products I know it's possible, because I run X2 Producer. Just thought it would be easier to break him in on something a little more simplistic.

I have read about a possible .dll that can be copied to shared surfaces, just not real clear, sorry for the confusion, I do not have the original Pro Tracks Plus software that came with the GNX4 that has the required control surface .dll.

Thanks for the clarification. I have the GNX3000 that I have been messing with again recently, but I have never set it up for hands-free mode. As far as I can tell, the control portion is done via USB (MIDI) and selecting a control surface in SONAR. I think Pro Tracks Plus (the version that came with the GNX3000) simply had a control surface already set up for this (called "Digitech Hands-Free"). I am not sure if SONAR has that, or if it would need to be created. I am not control surface savvy, but many members here are, and setting up a control surface "from scratch" should be doable (assigning MIDI from the pedal to actions in SONAR). I honestly have never used this function since I default to long lead ins/outs and chop the tails off when editing.

To get better help, I would recommend making a post in the SONAR forums with the title of "How to set up a control surface for GNX4?" The SONAR forum gets more visibility, and this is really a control surface question (and someone may even have the control surface file you need).
