'Visiting Wonderland' - constructive criticism welcome

Hi

I've been a Sonar user for quite some time now, but this is the first time that I've mixed and posted a pop/rock song. My mixing skills aren't all that, so any constructive criticism is welcome.

Thanks

UPDATE
I've tweaked the levels of some of the instrument tracks. Any comments welcome

    Hi Ant,

    Antler
but this is the first time that I've mixed and posted a pop/rock song.

There's a lot going on in this pleasant song. As best I can tell, I can hear all the elements okay, but I'm not that great at mixing this sort of stuff myself, so someone else will need to chip in on the finer points of mixing.

Did you just mix this tune, or are you the composer and performer too?

    My thoughts:
    • Bass is buried. Bring it up, but watch out for any EQ issues.
    • Cymbals are a little too loud.
    • Vocal is uneven, try doubling it.
    • Kick could use more low end thump.
Not a bad song at all. With a bit more work this could be quite good.

    Regards,
    Dan

    Mixing is all about control.

What Dan said plus I hear some timing issues as well.  Thanks for sharing.

This tune has some really nice touches that push my buttons, really nice work. Keeping in mind what others have said, I'd consider adding some background harmony singers. The melody in the pre-chorus and chorus have real potential to be quite "anthemic" and some energy in the lead and the addition of background singers would push it into the real of awesomeness, imho.

    Thanks for posting this!

Thanks for the kind words and advice!

I did the mix; I'm also the vocalist and guitarist (would probably like to be better at both). Bass is Cakewalk SI bass, strings are Dim Pro libraries, and drums are Superior 2.
