Windows 10 this month and Sonar plus vst stabilitiy
Hi If I ghost my drive with Windows 7 saved and then update to windows 10,I have something to go back to. If you roll back to 7 ,does It leave Windows 10 clutter underneath everything I would like to give It a go but do not want a horror story. From an expert point of view ,Is It worth waiting until the upgrade nearly runs out or buy a copy and do a fresh Install next year. I do not want to get too far behind the tech. Also ,Is there a tweak list of things anywhere for best performance and get rid of things like candy crush and letting Windows deciding for itself what to update and change. I do not want phone apps and all of those bells and whistles JUST MUSIC Daws and VSTs What are your views on this as It seems a lot of people have niggles. all the best John

Never rolled back. If it was me I would roll back When. Done I'd overwrite with ghost image... Just to keep the licensing sweet on the cloud and to keep it clean. I actually did a dual boot myself. That way rolling back didn't matter ;)

I'm on the fence - my Win7 is working fine. My question is in regards to "ghosting" Win7 and then installing the Win10 upgrade: do you lose your Win7 license after the 30 day check out? It's technically an upgrade and you no longer have the right to use the old (ie Win7). But practically speaking - if you reinstalled Win7 form a ghost image (after 30 days or whatever) would MS know you upgraded to Win10 and "turn off" your Win7? Does Win7 periodically check-in to ensure you have a valid registration? Or can you also "dual boot" win7 and wi10? Technically, MS says no.

Hi Dok I read that you are a little tentative until the New Year. It seems a little like a move Into the Twilight Zone at the moment!! Cityrat-- I am a very satisfied with 7 and also sitting on the fence. Like the Dok said Roll back. Then use Ghost or system Image overlay. You do not lose your license,It all stays there from ghosting. I went to Windows 10 with my main Internet computer and It slowed everything up and after a week of swearing at the machine ,I rolled back. Nothing was quite the same until I then re-ghosted back to Win 7 and all was fine again. IS IT WORTH A SHOT AT THE MOMENT OR NOT??? All the best John

>>If you ghost or Image your system you do not lose your license,It all stays there from ghosting That's what I figured - but wasn't sure if Win7 periodically checks the validity when on line like some of the newer MS products. I would guess you couldn't do a fresh Win7 install later though...

Have you checked all your hardware and drivers for compatibility? It's a personal decision, I have windows 10 everywhere but no way is it going to be my DAW OS until well into the new year.. I'm still seeing bugs. Cheers..

I won't change over till I extensively test it on a separate HD installation. Which means a lot of work installing Win7 then Win10 upgrade THEN a fresh install of Win10, then all my junk etc. No hurry for me....

Hi Dok I have all drivers for Scarlett 6i6 and Yamaha,so If I lose anything I have got them. All of my I7 Is updated for drivers ,chipset etc. Comoatibility Is now a new word that I have learnt today. I think from other peoples experience i will stick to the same as you there. I will keep eyes and ears to the ground. I do not want to spend half of what Is left of my life updating and keeping up with the Jones's. We have to spend more time on the ivory's. All the best John

As far as the DAW is concerned, Win 10 has been a very good upgrade (all my hardware drivers for equipment works very well). As far my internet connection, it's been horrible (Dok knows what I'm talking about). I have a built in Broadcom Ethernet Network card that keeps dropping my connection, and the drivers need continuous reinstalling/rollback (even with the newest drivers from Braodcom's site)......all within Win 10 Pro. I can only stay online for about 10-20 minutes (if I'm lucky) and then always get kicked out. I went ahead and bought a new adapter (Plugable USB 3.0 Gigabit Network Adapter) to all together do away with my Broadcom, but I'm still having the same issues (apparently, Plugable uses ASIX drivers which are actually included in Win 10), So, I don't really know what the deal is??? Anyway, I'm getting a new adapter from Plugable's support (excellent people to deal with) and if that doesn't work, I'm going back to Win 8.1.......very annoying to have intermittent internet service.

The Win10 upgrade process KEEPS Win7 in a backup folder. There is a process in Win10 to roll back to Win7. There is also a process, once you're happy with the upgrade, to have Win10 delete the Win7 backup. As long as you've got your data backed up separately (you do, right?), you shouldn't have a problem.

Interesting..... so I will probably stick with Win7 http://windowssecrets.com...-in-windows-licensing/Can Win10 run in a VPC or dual-boot setup? Many cautious Windows upgraders wish to leave Win7/8 on their PCs and install Win10 on a second drive or partition. Typically, they want to copy or create an image of a Win7 setup, upgrade to Win10, and then restore the original OS on another drive/partition. Sorry, but that’s not allowed. As long as Win10 is installed, takes over the original Win7 or Win8 license. For a month after installation, Win10 lets you roll back to Win7 or Win8 — but that process removes the new OS.

Have you tried it? Works for me. Do dual boot windows 7. Upgrade them both to Win10. Both get seperate product keys afterwards and are activated. If that does not work you still have your acronis backups one hopes. Btw I have two PCs with multiboot Linux, windows 8.1 and 2xwindows 10. For months now... And I'm sure it's not going to change. It's important to realise you get a seperate product key after you update win7. So you must do upgrades (at least initially) to generate product keys.

Btw apparently you can't update windows enterprise installations to win10 as well. This is BS... You have downgrade rights to windows professional. You can do this by doing a couple reg tweaks and then repair windows. From this position you can then update to win10.
