The Slap - Homage to the great dance instrumentals of the 60's
I don't usually do instrumentals because my guitar skills are pretty rudimentary, but I love the dance tunes of the 60's like Shotgun, Green Onions, and Tighten Up. I had this melody running around in my mind that I wanted to use to tip my hat to those great songs. You can be the judge as to whether or not I had any success. Anyway, here's the tune. Please feel free to be honest (not that there's any worry there!) :) https://soundcloud.com/kevin-ibsen/the-slap Thanks for any feedback! Note: I had to change the name of the tune to pass the censors. lol Kevin

Hi Kevin, Cool tune that Nice guitar playing... Good arrangement... Sounded good on my cans. Just one suggestion... The track finishes after 3:10 but there's silence for another 40 seconds... Minor, minor gripe, but I'm a fussy kinda guy haha cheers andy

Thanks for checking in, Andy, I appreciate it! Yeah, I usually check that kind of stuff but I forgot to this time. I'm not very strong on attention to detail.

Well, I must admit that, with is being at the end of the track, it doesn't matter so much. I sometimes leave SoundCloud playing the next recommended track, so every now and then I have to click on next, or even wait peacefully for the next track to start

I went back and removed the errant silence, so you shouldn't experience any inconvenient wait for the next track to roll up. :) Thanks, Andy!

I've updated the mix to clear up some stuff that was bugging me. :) I'm interested in comments on the mix, quality of the instrumentation, etc. Thanks for your feedback!

Sounds excellent Kevin - very well balanced. Guitars are the shizzle.

Cool tune.. has a bit of that retro vibe happening but still more open and modern sounding. Guitar parts are particularly good IMO - nice tone and solidly played.

Thanks for checking it out, Steve! Yes, that's the vibe I was going for, retro but modern mix. I thought maybe the synth might be overstating the point but it grew on me, lol. I appreciate your nod to the guitars. Lead guitar comes pretty hard for me so it's nice to hear someone actually digs it. Thanks again for your time. Kevin

Kevin, This number may have too much synth component to hark back to the sixties, but the clean guitar lines remind me of Steve Cropper who always played his licks clean and clear. And the drums are right on top of the beat ; I like the way they push and maintain the momentum. I like the mix just fine. Tasty stuff. Cheers, Bert

Thanks Bert, I appreciate you giving it your time and your comments. Yep, the synth isn't Stax by any means but it does add some bounce I think. Cropper is the man for sure! Thank you!
