I was at Later with Jools Holland today. BBC show. As the studio door opened some bloke burst out unshaven with scruffy hair and said 'I would not go in there if I were you'.. Happened to be the man. 15 minutes later all made up, suited and booted.. Had Charlie Wilson in the studio tonight.. Good lord that guy has the athletics of a 20 year old... I'm very sorry they don't show it anymore in Finland. I used to move them all to DVD's with menus per performer.
A great live music archive.
I hope at some point they'll start showing them again, I guess, starting from season 2009 or 2010. I suppose they can't afford to show fresh ones with a viewer base like ours.

After cancelling my cable TV service this year, the only thing I miss is the Palladia channel that carried Later with Jools Holland as well as concert videos, music documentaries and Live from Daryl's House.
 All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Hi, It's a total bummer ... with streaming getting so big, too many of these channels are not stepping up to the plate. Instead, they are waiting for cable/tv to die ... and then we will have 17,890 choices for streaming ... and none of them worth a nickel. In the US, soccer should start the streaming thing quick, since network TV is not going to amp up the millions, as they already have for football, baseball, basketball and hockey. Thus, MLS selling their streams would be a ncie thing ... with one problem ... I paid for it ... and in the West Coast, Comcast prevents the flow of the Seattle, Portland, San Jose and Los Angeles. Comcast lost the Netflix fight, and can not stop the flow thru the line ... but eventually, someone like Comcast, will be strictly selling their bandwidth to others ... not a TV service. I, btw, do not subscribe to Comcast's TV (I do not own a TV) and only their Internet, which might be the reason why they lock it down ... still ... I paid for a service I can't get! And the FCC won't do anything about it. No win!

Later is one of the few live music shows on British television with an eclectic range of music, it one of the few things I will go out of my way to.watch.
Other Voices from one of the Irish channels (RTA??) is probably the next best thing but it is neither as live or as eclectic as Later.

I forgot to say 2 minutes before it went live across the nation, the feed to the bass players amp blew up. Lots of browning of pants happened in that moment, and was fixed just before the titles rolled. It happens to everybody.

Later was on this morning with a hour and a half show, "Legends". Clips from lots of shows, some good stuff too. Carole King and Glen Campbell were particularly good, I missed the first 30 minutes with The Pretenders and David Gilmour.
I like most of the shows. I especially like how they have new music and people you haven't (probably) seen in decades.

I adore the moments when you first watch something like Metallica or David Bowie, and 15 seconds after them a young band (maybe in their first nationwide TV-performance) plays full of adrenalin and mayde overdoing a little.

It's time for a new live music show in the U.S. The last good one was Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, which went off the air in 1981. (No, Live from Daryl's House doesn't count; it's too heavily edited.) More people are attending live shows than ever before, and it's the only way for a band to make money nowadays.
Perhaps we could start a letter-writing campaign for the BBC to bring LWJH to America. After all, there is a long history of British shows that did well after being re-imagined for an American audience. Sanford & Son, The Office, America's Got Talent, the X Factor, American Idol, Antiques Roadshow, All in the Family, Dancing with the Stars - all based on British TV shows.
Of course, the record isn't 100% success. Anybody see the American version of Red Dwarf? Exactly.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I can't get Red Dwarf on Netflix any more. I could watch re-runs for years and still laugh.
