Sonar doesn't work with Miroslav Philharmonic?

I couldn't load Miroslav Philharmonic (32-bit only) in neither Sonar, nor in MC7 (both 64-bit). DXi version is listed, but greyed out and I get en error that the synth is not correctly installed, which isn't true, because it runs correctly as a standalone and in Reaper. VSti x32 version is not even listed, although a correct x32 plugins path is added to the VST locations box. What can cause such an error? How to fix this?

Old 32bit IK plug-ins usually require running the DAW as administrator. Unless wrapped as a VST, it is strange a 64bit DAW even sees a 32bit DirectX plug-in.

Thank you for your reply! I'll try to be more descriptive.
The error:

I also installed a VSTi version, but Sonar does not find it at all.

I rescanned plugins, it didn't help.

Sonar only sees a DXi version

but it is greyed out in the plugin layout manager.

Any thoughts?

Run Sonar as administrator and then rescan. Note that you will be able to use MP in that mode only and there are still quite some glitches.

There was big discussion in the Software section, the best advise is to get ST 3 (can be SE, but not free). If you do this today or tomorrow, you still can participate in the current action and get 5 extensions for free...

I had the same issue with SampleTank but when I opened Sonar as admin I was able to get it to work.  I had made a folder in the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins called SampleTank then put the SampleTank2.x.dll in that folder.  When I started Sonar as admin it saw the .dll and then SampleTank was available.  Incidentally I had to set up Sonar to always start as admin because I couldn't get SampleTank to load unless I opened as admin.......hope this helps because your issues looks like it is exactly like what I was going thru.

Also try inserting the synth as split audio/midi, NOT as a Simple Instrument Track

I don't think you will ever succeed in running a 32bit DirectX plug-in a Cakewalk DAW without a DX-to-VST wrapper and then the plug-in will show up in the VST2 list. WRT the actual VST plug-in not appearing in the list, did you try running a VST reset. Here is how http://www.cakewalk.com/S...ed-for-Upgraders

And yes, as the other have said, run SONAR as administrator.

If you have Sampletank 3 you can integrate the sounds of Miraslav Into Sampletank.
You install through the legacy Instruments section
The same goes for Samplemoog.Sampletron and Sonic Synth.
They will then work as Sampletank 3 and Is the same for Knobs and all.Just a different Layout.

I've never understood the problems people have had with the 32-bit IK VIs.  I ran Sampletank 2.5 for years under 64-bit Sonar (Bitbridge only) and, well, it just worked.  I also had Miroslav Phil and Sonik Synth, but used them as libs within Sampletank (so  only had Sampletank running).

Of course, I've always registered the programs using the standalones (not the plugins), done a Reset/Rescan of VSTs after every change, and "Run as Admin" with all installs and when running applications.  Seems to me one or more of these has got to be the key ingredient(s) with using the IK 32-bit stuff successfully.

I have Sampletank 3 now, so no more Bitbridge, and I've imported the older libs.  I still follow the old steps out of habit, though, and can't say I've run into any glitches with the newer version either.

As the others have noted, running as administrator and then re-scanning plug-ins usually does the trick. If not, a VST reset and rescan can help:

1) Go into the Plug-in Manager (Utilities>Cakewalk Plug-in Manager)
2) Click Options
3) Select both boxes (Re-scan failed and existing plug-ins),
4) Click Reset All, and then OK
5) Click Scan VST Plug-ins
6) Go back into Options after doing this, and uncheck both boxes.

Wierd. This way I can get Sonar to see the plugin, and it loads only if run as admin. Looking for a way to solve this. For now this workaround is fine.

I'm not trying to run 32-bit DXi. That was the only option before pedwards2932 suggested his workaround.

Yes, I had done all that prior to starting a new thread. Why does Sonar require admin rights in order to run IK 32-bit plugins? That doesn't happen to other 32-bit plugins and instruments.

Not to hijack this thread but I have Workstation XL which has all the IK Multimedia sound libraries.....if I want to run them just from the SampleTank interface then do I just create a folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 2.5\Instruments and name the folder for whichever library like "Miroslav Philharmonik" then drop the library in there?

Yes, I had done all that prior to starting a new thread. Why does Sonar require admin rights in order to run IK 32-bit plugins? That doesn't happen to other 32-bit plugins and instruments.

The problem is in IK, not Sonar.

Technically, Sonar (and other hosts) just try to load all DLLs it finds in configured folders and ask them either they are VSTs, with which names and properties. 32bit DLLs can not be loaded into 64bit program directly, so that is done throw some helper (Sonar has "BitBridge", external one with name JBridge is known to work better with MP, you can try that way).

If a DLLs does not report as expected, Sonar assumes that is something else. So Sonar has some options as "rescan failed" and "rescan existing". The simplest way is (as already suggested) rescan everything.

Without Admin rights, MP refuse to answer Sonar correctly. Who knows why...

There are also some rumor how to make it work if it does not, including manually copy Philharmonik.dll to other folder or create Philharmonik.ini with some special settings (see http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2646391)

But since SampleTank 3 was introduces, many users simply use SE version to avoid that (and other) problems.

I'm not blaming any particular developer just looking for a solution.
Reaper x64 runs MP without a problem, though...

That's what I've done. Wasn't expecting it to be a common problem. Thanks for the link.

Yes, I got ST3SE bundled with MP, so I'll just use Miroslav libraries with it.
Thanks!

Re: Sonar doesn't work with Miroslav Philharmonic? 2015/10/16 17:28:34 (permalink)
I used to go through an install process with IK VSTs that addressed this.  First, I would change my regular user account to an admin account (for the duration of the process only).  Next, I would install and register the product using the elevated user account.  I would run Sonar and execute the VST while elevated.  Then I would set the user account back to a regular user.

There is some registry entry or file that is in an admin restricted directory that only needs to be written to on initialization.  After things are installed and running it only needs to read this so things are OK.

Sometime last year, someone posted a registry hack changing permissions on an element.  I haven't had to play with this since the registry change (which sadly, I can't remember off the top of my head).

If at all possible, I would heartily recommend upgrading to SampleTank 3. Not only does this sort of problem go away, but ST3 includes some of the sounds in Miroslav with awesome articulation keyswitching built in. And you can upgrade straight from Miroslav without buying ST2. Upgrade at AudioDeluxe for a nice discount. Oh, and if you do get ST3, use the VST2 version rather than the VST3 version - the latter has some UI sluggishness.

hi guys, I recently upgraded to windows 10 and suddently I had this problem too, and I FIXED RUNNING SONAR AS ADMINISTRATOR.

here is how I solved this:

right click on sonar icon
click on properties
click on advanced
check the box "run as administrator"
ok, aply, etc

and... PROBLEM SOLVED. it solved as well another issues I had with another 32b plugin: Speakerphone from Audioease.

just one thing: you MUST open sonar by doble clicking the icon from the desktop (or wherever you have its shorcut) and once opened, you must open your project using sonar's menu. DON'T OPEN SONAR BY DOUBLE CLICKING ON YOUR PROJECT'S ICON, since it will open sonar not as administrator and it simply won't work. do this at least the times you are going to use Philarmonik.

hope it helps.

(if it doesn't work the first time), open plugin manager, under VST options check the 2 Re-scan boxes and do a scan of your VSTs. after this, it will work, an you may get back to plugin manager and uncheck the 2 Re-scan boxes again.

in windows 10, with sonar platinum x64 so far, I only had have positive experiences. I'm very pleased, sonar is rock-solid. I worked with sonar X2a in windows 8.1 very few times, but it seemed to work very smooth. but, if you could find drivers for win10 for all your devices, I strongly recommend to upgrade to windows 10.

I currently have ST3......and do have some older projects done in ST2 which I do get errors when trying to open up the project (can't find sounds.....to that effect). I've been wanting to remix these older projects, but didn't know how to get the ST2 synths to work in Platinum (Win 10 x64).

Should I try the Admin route first and if that doesn't work, what are some other options I could try?

As another option St3 has an import legacy instrument function. I used it to load miroslav philharmonic so that I could use the library as a 64bit plugin. You just have to reassign the instruments/sounds to your midi tracks.

I have been using Miroslav for years (including now Version 2).  And I have had no problems with the various versions of Sonar over the years (seems like 5 years or so).  So there must be a way to make it work.  And I have used Sonar at 64 bit as soon as it was available.

I actually thought about doing this, but wasn't sure if the correct instruments/sounds would import at all (ST3 being a different synth)......I hope I labeled which instruments/sounds were used in ST2.

Here we go with the sollution (support team email):

Update to SampleTank CS 64 bit from your User Area and use this to import all your older IK Legacy sounds using the Import Legacy Instruments option. Look the link below for a video on how to Import.

https://cloud.ikmultimedia.com/s/Mf8KCGYDNyw6ajP

Your serial # is in the User Area > My Products > under Authorizations under SampleTank CS.

Go to the User Area: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/userarea

Go to My Products > under SampleTank CS click >>> Sounds Downloads and download the sound installers

SampleTank CS Free has 1 sound installer

Unzip each one and then install each sound installer separately, make sure to run the installer inside of each DMG/Zip to install the sounds. <<<.

The sounds should be installed into the default location (you can move the folder after the full install)

PC: C > Users > Name > Documents > IK Multimedia > SampleTank 3
Mac: HD > Users > Shared > IK Multimedia > SampleTank 3

The manuals are located here:
Under Manuals under the Product in the User Area.

Mac
HD > User > Name >Library > Documentation > IK Multimedia > Product Folder

PC

I had this prob with Miroslav 32, solved by wrapping it in jBridge. Works fine now. Same solution worked for my old Antares Harmony Engine 32 also. ($19 for jBridge beats hundreds for 64 bit Miroslav and Harmony.)

I remember those days: Here is a thread where I went through same thing back in 2015
http://forum.cakewalk.com/Miroslav-Philharmonik-with-Sonar-Plat-x-64-m3283549.aspx

What I did:
* upgraded to microslav Phil 2
* before the upgrade to MP2, I used sample tank 3.x to play MP1

Sonar Platinum, EWHO/D, Spitfire, Miroslav, Pianoteq, ....,  Kurzweil.

I imported my Miroslav & other ST2 based soundbanks into ST3 Free - is there any way of loading in the multis from the old ST2 instruments? I haven't spotted it if there is

Cheers
