I like the textures that you create with all of the synths, instruments and vocals. It really has a cool sound "airy" to it.

I couldn't understand what you were saying a lot of the time, though, because the vocals seem kind of buried in the mix. IMO it would be good of the lead vocals were more up front. I think the BG VOX sound cool the way they are.

    Hi CW,

I always enjoy listening to your work. Your vocals have their own style, which I like, especially with the effects that you use on them.

Nice song too... Mix works well for me... All round, a job well done

Yeah, stacking the vocal right on top of the vocoder effect makes the words mostly illegible. There needs to be some separation there to add clarity. Also, the "rumble" effect takes up too much space in the mix. Some judicious EQ would certainly help.

BGV sound fine, as do most of the other instruments. Bass could use a little more bottom.

Overall, this mix is very close, just a couple of trouble spots.

I really like the song and style. The mix is also very good
I also like the idea of the vocoder but, as other people have said, it is difficult to make out the lyrics.

Thanks for the comments and feedback.  I'll do another spin on it to try to de-muddle the vocals as suggested.  Like I said at the outset, it was ready for others' ears because I've stopped being able to hear it objectively.

    Thanks!

I'd say very creative in the vision department. A very strong style, love how it keeps changing. There are a lot of fantastic elements to play with in your mix.

A few minutes in, the "let the rain come down" - this section is pretty well mixed. The other sections of your song need this kind of separation and clarity. I like the Dirty Vegas vocoding but I'd vote to turn it down, or off, once in a while, to let your main vocal shine.

    And, more bass please.

Everything else seems to sit pretty well, for me. You occasionally are singing one line with a vocoded version of the same line, all over the top of you singing another line. That's a lot for my brain to handle!

Absolutely awesome chord and mood changes throughout your song, though. Love those.

    cheers,
    -Tom

Interesting in a nice way I agree about the vox clashing though, thanks for sharing.

Hi. I think this song has a cool vibe over it Maybe some separation on the vocals could be useful, to get the vocals to cut a bit more through. Nice mix and song, anyway (thumbsup).

This song pushed a lot of my buttons, a lovely David Gilmore/Pink Floyd vibe to my ears. I loved the sound of the vocal in the left channel that popped in now and again. I can't be more specific because I couldn't really understand what was being said, more a like a cry than a phrase I think, but it sounded fantastic. The melody of the song is haunting and lovely and the changes are interesting and really move the song forward. And I was so happy to hear a guitar bust in when it did. Really nice songwriting and arranging in this piece.

Some subjective comments: I'd love to hear more of the drum and bass working together with a lot more girth and depth, particularly in the break, but I think that's just the rock n' roller in me talking, your laid back drum machine-like treatment sounds a lot like what I hear in more recent pop songs. Still, having the rhythm section unleash at least a little bit at the ultimate moment of the song would add some great dynamic interest.

As to the mix, I agree with pretty much everything that's been said so far about the vocals and bass and I'd throw in the drums as well. Also, I really wanted to hear that tasty guitar jump out and rip a new one, you know, make a stronger statement. The licks are great, I'd just like to hear them much more clearly. This is great work, I wish I could write stuff this interesting and compelling.

Okay, thanks for all the feedback.  I've updated the song under the original link.

Come to think of it, this track was probably the first i had done using MVocoder so i think i erred by over-using the shiny new toy.  I've backed it off in several sections, boosted the bass and made some other tweaks.

    Thanks again for listening!
