Problems in midi track editing !!
Hello Everyone, Facing this problem all of a sudden from nowhere. Not able to freely and selectively (by highlighting) copy/drag/move/delete portions of a midi track. Two notes have to be highlighted for any editing and even then unwanted adjoining areas of the track gets affected and neither the wanted portion gets copied/deleted.
Anyone knows where the controls are to treat this problem? I tried @ Preferences/Editing. Thanks and Regards, Kane

Is it possible you accidentally locked the clip? Check in the inspector. Also, post a screenshot if you're able.

Are you editing a groove clip or linked clips? The corners will be rounded if it's a groove clip. Linked clips a dotted border.

Clip Lock - No Groove Clip - No Below is a screenshot. The shaded part in the first pic is the area I wanted to separate but what I got is in the second pic as the second clip (the bottom two long notes are missing). Similarly, if say I want to separate the third note (8 to 10) or any part of it, it does not get copied unless I choose/highlight some part of the 2nd or 4th note. And with the same end result that the new moved clip does not contain the two long notes which consisted in the original clip. Thanks. Sorry, the pic did not come up. Attach Images/Gallery Upload/Select an option and then nothing !!

Is it just one project/clip or all projects?

Hello Karl, The issue is prevalent across projects/clips. Earlier highlighting/dragging/moving of any portion of a clip in its entirety was possible. But now as I said above only the whole note gets moved (which is kind of okay) and notes (usually the bass notes) which has a starting point earlier than the highlighted area does not get copied/moved in the new clip (a little issue here because I have to record it again for the new clip). I have a screenshot but upload options are not showing up. Regards, Kane

A few questions to clarify the problem. Is the problem in track view, PRV, or both? Can you select just the area you want or is it selecting areas you don't? (That would indicate snap settings are playing a part) Are you using the smart tool for selection?

Hi Audiomyth, To post pics you need to upload to a photo sharing service such as Photobucket and then go to inserting the pic into the Sonar forums. Hope this helps.

Just a thought do you have Preferences > Customisation > Non-destructive midi editing. Ticked?

Hello..... Karl: In PRV, I tried extending/dragging the bass notes (from the original clip, as it was not getting copied) to the new clip, bounce clip to merge and so on, but it did not work - the new clip and extended bass notes (as separate new clip) just wont merge. I am not very sure but just get a feeling that snap settings might be playing role in here. And also, I am not able to select areas at will. If I select a part of a note, it just does not get highlighted/eligible for dragging/moving. I have to highlight the entire note. Yes, I am using the Smart Tool for selection. Clint: Thanks for the info. Will try that out. Dok Avalanche: I tried on Piano View, but does not seems to be working or may be I am missing out on something. It is much easier to edit on track view. Regards, Kane

I'm still not sure that I understand exactly what you are trying to do but the settings for how copied notes etc are pasted can be found in the advanced paste options. Press Alt+Ctrl+V to access those and click the "advanced" button if it isn't already displaying the full options. There you can set whether events are pasted into new clips or existing clips. Is that what you are looking for? I am not very sure but just get a feeling that snap settings might be playing role in here. And also, I am not able to select areas at will. I think the partial selection of a note thing is as expected. It's the whole note or nothing. Whether the note is selected or not is dependent on how you are selecting. If you are dragging in the time ruler you need to include the start of the note for it to be selected. If in the PRV with right click lasso selection, any notes that are part touched by the lasso should select. You can also ctrl click to toggle a notes selection. Shift + click adds to selected notes as long as they are in the same clip. If they are in different clips use ctrl+click to achieve the same. That may be why you are seeing what appears to be strange selection behaviour.
