freeze synth | Direct Synth Recording

After using Direct Synth Recording how do you freeze the synth to unload it while keeping the recorded audio track active?

    I would think you just archive the synth.  That will unload it from the CPU. 
    If you're recording the synth to the audio track, move the clip to another audio track.

    I believe what you want to do is disconnect the synth. Click on the synth in the synth rack and use the drop down menu on the synth tab to uncheck "Synth Connected."

    I forgot about that!
    Sitting at my desk at work, I could only go by what I've done on X1 thru 3...

    I didn't think this unloaded resources from memory, does it?
    I though freezing the synth did- do both?

    Synth Connected. Connect/disconnect the selected synth, mute all tracks associated with it, and free up memory and CPU cycles.

    Note this does not mute recorded or frozen audio. I believe it is the same function called in the freeze process after the audio is rendered.

    You can also just copy the synth audio to another audio track and archive the synth.  That is how I do it w/ frozen synths.  I haven't tried direct recording but I will with Alchemy and the pads to capture my performance.
