Allow arm changes?

I've seen reference to this in several posts.  Where can I find it in Sonar Platinum?  One post mentioned Preferences>Project>Record, but I don't have Project in my preferences menu.... I am in advanced.

There is menu organization mistake, it is global option, but now it is placed in project menu. I've reported it, but it is not fixed yet.

I think it is project specific for a reason. If you want it to default to off by default then edit the template to have it off. Then every time you start a new project it will be off.

I just tested this and it does work.

You may feel it is better to keep it organized differently. I do not agree.

I'm curious how Cake will weigh in on the subject.

Tom, it is not per project now, actually it is global. If you change it, it changes for all projects.

Yup that's what I see... It also makes sense to me it being global. I can't see a person wanting to change his/her workflow on a per project basis when it comes to this specific functionality.

Dave, you have to go to preferences (click "P"):

"To allow arming during playback, go to Edit > Preferences > Project - Record and select the Allow Arm Changes During Playback/Record check box."

You don't have to start a new project to "Allow arm changes" if you go to preferences...   But if you want to do this while playing back the audio, follow the Dok's link.

Dok, I couldn't find in the instruction the need of open a project to setup the function. Here's a copy of the link. Maybe I'm not understanding correctly, I'll check when I get home.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arming tracks during playback/recording
SONAR is able to arm and disarm tracks during playback and recording. This allows you to record to different tracks while the transport is rolling, without first having to stop playback in order to arm a track for recording.
To allow arming during playback
Go to Edit > Preferences > Project - Record and select the Allow Arm Changes During Playback/Record check box.

Note: The Allow Arm Changes During Playback/Record option is disabled by default. When enabled, SONAR must keep all hardware input ports open so that it can dynamically arm tracks on the fly. With some drivers in WDM mode, this can add significant overhead if there are many input devices enabled in Edit > Preferences > Audio - Devices. This may lead to more frequent drop outs. When using this option in WDM mode, it is recommended that you disable all unused input drivers in Edit > Preferences > Audio - Devices to minimize this overhead. Disabling unused inputs is not required when using ASIO mode.
SONAR has an option that can reduce CPU overhead when the Allow Arm Changes During Playback/Record option is enabled.
When Allow Arm Changes During Playback/Record is enabled, SONAR must keep all hardware input ports open so that it can dynamically arm tracks on the fly. With some drivers in WDM mode, this can add significant overhead if there are many input devices enabled in Edit > Preferences > Audio - Devices).
The new Only For Inputs In Project option instructs SONAR to only open hardware input ports that are currently active in the project (i.e. assigned to a track).
To only open active hardware input ports
Go to Edit > Preferences > Project - Record and select the Only For Inputs In Project check box.

I just tested this and it does work.

Not what I'm seeing...

1) Create new project
2) Change arm monitoring to on.
3) Save.
4) Create another new project.
5) Change arm changes to off.
6) Close Sonar.

Open either project the arm changes will still stay the same as you last changed them. Opening a project does NOT change the values. Repro'd in Platinum JP.

Lots of confusion in this thread it seems.    As mentioned above, I don't have:

Edit > Preferences > Project - Record and select the Allow Arm Changes During Playback/Record check box."

Under preference, I have the following main categories:

Audio
Midi
File
Customizations

No Project category.

Found it.   For anyone else looking for "Allow Arm Changes During Record/Playback "dialog is only available in the preferences menu, when you actually have a project open.  The "Project" sub menu is not in the main preferences menu when a project you do not have a project open.

FYI, i still haven't found it in the new project menu.

Where did anybody state it's in the "New Project menu".?

Post #2 - "Open or create a new project, then do it. Cheers."
Post #10 - "Remember to start a new project (or open one)."
Post #15 - "Nope you must open/create a new project. Does not display in preferences otherwise."
Post #26 - " You must create a new project or open a project first before the steps you list."

Anyway hallelujah!

Cheers...
