What happened to X3?

I have X2 Studio and want to upgrade to X3 Studio but cannot find any way to do this. I upgraded to X2 from Sonar 6. I don't see X3 in any product lineup on Cakewalk forum. Where is it? If is was scrapped, what is the equivalent. Very confusing and no info anywhere.

That's the way it goes with SONAR. When a new version is out, you can't buy the previous one anymore.
You're right, it should be explained clearly in CW store and wherever the versions get listed.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Ha ha, it seems you are couple years late...
Sonar product page gives enough information about current versions:

Current version of Sonar came out less than a year ago, and boxes of X3 were still available on the internet for months after the current release.

Yeah, but one year ago it was already too late to upgrade to X3.
